Netflix Teases the Streamer’s Next Big Thing, ‘Bridgerton’, from Shondaland

Upon the arrival of Netflix’s Bridgerton, fans ask who Lady Whistledown is.

For the incoming hour long eight-episode drama from Shondaland, Lady Whistledown is an anonymous author of a gossip newsletter that has given entertainment in recent years. However, she’s done playing around––naming names, pointing fingers, and accountability is her game now.

Julie Andrews voices the character, and she does a fantastic job of doing so. Reading different pages, the character seems to have little birdies flocking society seemingly having a full sense of what’s happening in the community. “You don’t know me and never shall,” as she’d say in the teaser.

With the newest social season to start, as the series would say, Andrews gives a cautious reminder for all the young ladies out there, stating: “We shall discover which young ladies might succeed at securing a match. Let it be known, if there’s a scandal, I shall uncover it and share every last detail.

Bridgerton will serve as the first scripted series by Shondaland that will be under Shonda Rhimes’ massive overall deal with the streaming giant.

The story of the series revolves around Daphne Bridgerton, played by Phoebe Dynevor, and her debut into the “competitive marriage market.” As she makes an effort to find her true love, Lady Whistledown attacks her reputation in her writings, leading Bridgerton to enter an arrangement with the Duke of Hastings, played by Regé-Jean Page. As emotion builds between both Daphne and the Duke, but of course, they must not forget society’s expectations of them.

The series is based on Julia Quinn’s book series of the same name and also stars Jonathan Bailey, Nicola Coughlan, Claudia Jessie, Ruby Barker, Adjoa Andoh, Golda Rosheuvel, Luke Thompson, Luke Newton, Ruby Stokes, Will Tilston, Florence Hunt, Ruth Gemmell, Bessie Carter, Harriet Cains, Polly Walker, Ben Miller, Sabrina Bartlett, Martins Imhangbe, and Lorraine Ashbourne.
