By any means necessary, The Mandalorian is a revolutionary show since it came out. What’s considered to be more of a side story than the main storyline of a Star Wars movie has surpassed records and titles. One title, however, has been notoriously avoided by big series and films––and that’s being the most-pirated show of any year.
Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your perspective), The Mandalorian absolutely bagged the title of the most-pirated TV show of 2020 with the help of torrenting site BitTorrent.
According to TorrentFreak and IndieWire, for years and years Game of Thrones was the most-pirated TV show when it was still running. However, the record-breaking HBO series ended in 2019––giving the number one spot to The Mandalorian in 2020.
Obviously, this isn’t a Grammy or an Academy Award and it sure isn’t a great title to have. Looking at the bigger picture, however, the absolute widespread of the series has gone to different corners of the world––both Star Wars fans and non-Star Wars fans alike. Disney Plus hit over 80 million subscribers in December, unsurprisingly, only after a year of existence in the world.
The Boys takes second place in the rankings as the Amazon Prime Video superhero series proves to be the most-viewed show on the platform. HBO’s sci-fi series, Western Westworld, comes in at number three while Amazon Prime Video’s Vikings ranked fourth. Following the list are CBS’ Star Trek: Picard, Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty, AMC’s The Walking Dead, HBO’s The Outsider, CW’s The Arrow, and CW’s The Flash to round out the list.
Looks like people live pirating their sci-fi series, huh?
