‘Locke & Key’ Season 2: When is it Coming? Release Date, Production Updates, and More

Locke & Key, for the past years, has only been set aside for people to read. Only recently, however, have people realized its truest potential in the screens. As readers and audiences alike patiently waited for the novel to become a full-on series, it wouldn’t be wise for Netflix to cancel it after the series’ first season.

To the delight of many fans, the Joe Hill special alongside its writing team has been grinding to work on new episodes “even though it hasn’t been greenlit,” showrunner Carlton Cuse said to IGN. That dedication (and assumption) proves that whatever happens, the crew behind the series will stop at nothing to provide audiences the content they deserve.

It’s also worth noting that Emilia Jones, Kinsey Locke in the series, had a gut feeling about the renewal of the series when she discovered that the writers’ room had been designated to work on new episodes. Even then, stars like herself weren’t even sure of what was happening.

Finishing up, people were saying, ‘It would shock me if we didn’t get a Season 2.’ And then, they opened the writers’ room and, by the time the show came out, they were on Episode 8 or something crazy like that. I remember thinking, ‘This is really exciting.’ But then, I found out that two shows that didn’t get picked up also had writers’ rooms. Then, I was like, ‘I can’t get excited or celebrate until I know for sure.’

But yeah, I’m so excited that it’s been picked up. I think there are some awesome storylines for Season 2, and it ended on a cliffhanger, so it will be nice to pick that up. We ended in a nice place. Things calmed down and we’re happy where we are. We have friends and we’re figuring out what the responsibilities are, being the keepers of the keys.

As long as the words in bold remain true to its nature, we’re in for a pretty exciting second season––and that may be an understatement.

On the series’ official @lockeykeynetflix Twitter account, they’ve announced and confirmed that a second season is coming. However, newer episodes may have to ask for a little bit of patience from fans as the first season of the series arrived on the streaming giant on the 7th of February, 2020.

If the series is picking up where it left off, then it’s safe to assume that the majority of the cast members are coming back for season two. The list of stars includes Jackson Robert Scott as Bode Locke, Connor Jessup as Tyler Locke, Emilia Jones as Kinsey Locke, Sherri Saum as Ellie Whedon, Griffin Gluck as Gabe, Darby Stanchfield as Nina Locke, and Laysla De Oliveira as Dodge.

September of 2020 marked a great month for the cast as they’ve added season one recurring stars in Aaron Ashmore Hallea Ashmore to the regulars of the second season. Brendan Hines, from The Tick, also joins the cast of regulars for the second season. As for guest stars, Liyou Abere from Mrs. America and The Boys was also added to the mix.

SPOILERS AHEAD! The first season finale left us a bunch of questions to ask that we’re hoping will be taken into account during the second season. The twist that revealed Dodge was alive and will be returning to hunt for the keys still strike people to the bones.

For now, however, the omega key is safe. However, future episodes can easily change that.

Season two of Locke & Key is still in their early stages of development. Give it time, it’s not highly-rated for no reason. Just don’t expect season two to come around soon until 2021.
