Marvel’s Kevin Feige Adamant to Stay in Theaters Amidst the Surge of Streaming Platforms

After the biggest box office movie in EndgameWandaVisionis set to start the fire for Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Disney+ next month. Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios’ very own, has been indulged in the pandemic enough to know that media isn’t the same as before––and he knows where exactly it’s going.

Marvel’s President stated that “streaming is 100 percent the future and where consumers want to watch things.” The pandemic, as you may all know, has pushed everyone in the world to the comfort of their own homes––ending the reign of movie premiers until it completely subsides. However, Marvel is adamant about the theatrical business.

You go to movies for things you can’t get on streaming, and you go to streaming for things you can’t get in a theater. And of course, everything in a theater goes to streaming eventually,” Feige said.

He also said that series and “long-form narrative series” like WandaVisionis an experience “you can’t get in a movie.”

Honestly, the pandemic panned out well narrative-wise for Marvel and Disney. The fact that they can introduce new characters and tell their own grounded stories on the smaller screens before they put it into cinematic projects is a privilege, at the very least.

Though the studio does actually know where audiences are located, they’re not bothered by the uncertain times––especially the theatrical industry. For example, the Black Widow movie was pushed to a May 2021 premiere.

For the next few years, expect that Disney+ will be the home of many of your favorite characters from Marvel with releases such as LokiThe Falcon and the Winter SoldierMs. Marvel, She-HulkMoon KnightWhat If…?, and Hawkeye.

WandaVision will be setting the tone, though. Consisting of six one-hour episodes, the newest addition to the Marvel universe will arrive on the 15th of January, 2021.
