‘Money Heist’ Season 5: Renewal, Release Date, Cast Updates, and Episodes

For what it’s worth, one of Netflix’s biggest diamonds is its international series, Money Heist or La Casa De Papel. The absolute outburst of emotions when the streamer announced that the series was going to return for a fifth and, unfortunately, final season on the streaming giant shows just how much fans loved the series devotedly––some even religiously. Here’s everything we know about the fifth season of Money Heist, a potential release date, cast and production updates, and more.

With no need for an introduction at all, Money Heist currently holds the record of being the most-watched non-English title on Netflix. Considering that titles on the streamer have circumnavigated from all across the globe, having the title means so much for the cast and crew. Season after season, it beats out all the records that they set themselves––but most especially the fourth season that racked up an enormous 65 million views.

Before everything else, there’s a special documentary that was released by productions last 3rd of April, 2020, titled Money Heist: The Phenomenon. The documentary focuses on the monstrous rise of the series and includes the likes of Ted Sarandos, the cast, and the creators of the show. From glorious behind-the-scenes, personal acclaims, and issues the series has experienced before it became the hit it is today.

Has Money Heist been renewed for its 5th season?

As you may know, the fourth season of the series was released on the streaming giant globally on the 3rd of April, 2020, and boasted eight episodes. It took quite a long time, but Netflix did acknowledge that the 5th season of Money Heist will be on the platform sooner or later. However, alongside the Twitter announcement was a sentence that rocked the fanbase: “THE HEIST COMES TO AN END,” it said––meaning that season five will be the final installment of the Spanish series.

In a statement posted by Netflix’s official @netflixqueue account, Alex Pina said this about the renewal:

We’ve spent almost a year thinking about how to break up the band. How to put the Professor on the ropes. How to get into situations that are irreversible for many characters. The result is the fifth part of La Casa de Papel. The war reaches its most extreme and savage levels, but it is also the most epic and exciting season.

Speaking to Deadline, Alex Pina, the creator of the series, said that “Netflix will put a bomb in my house” if he says anything aside from the confirmed future of the series. Alex Rodrigo, one of the directors of the series, stated that if there was one way to close out the series, it would be to “close the series in style, as the fans imagine and dream.”

How many episodes will be in season 5?

Reportedly, the fifth installment of the series will be two episodes longer than usual––giving the audience 10 episodes before the series wraps up and fans bawl in the corner.

Who are attached to work on the fifth season?

Of course, what’s a new season of Money Heist without new cast members. As you may have seen above, the fifth season will be introducing two new characters.

First on the list is Sense8‘s Miguel Ángel Silvestre who is reported to become a new villain for the final season.

We always try to bring in charismatic, intelligent and brilliant opponents. In this case, from a genre of pure war, we also look for characters in which the intelligence can be like that of the Professor,” Pina said.

Patrick Criado also joins the cast. Well known for his roles in The Aspirant and The King, Criado is a solid addition to the team. However, in September 2020, there were reports leading to another signing––José Manuel Seda.

In a tweet, Seda said:

Happy to share the wonderful gift I received on my birthday: my participation in the final season of @LaCasaDePapelTV one of those series that when you see them, you dream of being in it. Thanks to @VancouverMed and @NetflixES
