10 Most Famous Hufflepuff Characters in Harry Potter

Ask a Harry Potter fan about his notion of an underdog, for sure, the house of Hufflepuff will come across his mind. For some reason, Hufflepuff was a center of tease and jokes among the houses of Gryffindor, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Draco Malfoy even expressed his bitter regard when he said,  “Imagine being in Hufflepuff, I think I’d leave, wouldn’t you?”

Harry Potter series is obviously Gryffindor-centric. It’s no surprise the Hufflepuff had a limited space on the story’s plot. But the thing is, this house is known for its humble and friendly spirit. In fact, they were the first to support and stand up for Harry during his quest for the final horcruxes.

Who are the most famous Hufflepuff Characters?

Though they are a little exposed on the spotlight, Hufflepuff characters are giving Hogwarts an element of balance.

While Hogwarts seemed to ignite spirits of serious competition, Hufflepuff stood in the direction of compassion, kindness and acceptance of others.

That’s why these underdogs deserve to stand on the limelight for their incredible contributions.

Let’s get to know some of the most prominent Hufflepuff characters:

FAT FRIAR

This character only appeared as ghost in the Harry Potter series, but he has a lot of backstories to tell. You may be surprised but this character exuded an incredible achievement when he was in physical shape.

He was one of the brilliant students of Helga Hufflepuff, and he used his magical ability to cure muggles from their illness.

It was a sad note that his kindness was reciprocated with evilness, he was abused and later killed.

HANNAH ABBOT

It’s practically unfair not to include Hannah Abbot on the list of the most famous Hufflepuff characters. Hannah, who is a half-blood witch, came from the reputable Abbot family.

Her character’s breakthrough came to life when she joined the army of Dumbledore, in fight against Voldemort.

Unfortunately, death eaters slayed her mother so she decided to leave Hogwarts for quite some time.

On the later part of the plot, she rejoined Dumbledore’s army, and by that time, the group  was already led by Neville Longbottom, Ginny Weasley, and Luna Lovegood.

THESEUS SCAMANDER

Theseus played a major role during the first world war, making him a prominent hero. Consequently, he got promoted as the Head Auror because of his vigor to help. He was a brother to Newt Scamander.

Theseus’ talent and intelligence made him at par among other characters.

SUSAN BONES

Imagine the weight of grief to someone who lost not just a single family member but a whole of them. This was the worse feeling played by the character of Susan Bones.

Her entire family was murdered by Voldemort. It’s the reason why Susan became much closer to her aunt, Amelia Bones, the only family she had. But on a sad fate, Amelia was also  murdered by Voldemort.

Susan was a member of the Dumbledore’s army and a good friend to Hermione Grainger.

TEDDY LUPIN

His full name is Edward “Teddy” Remus Lupin, the son of Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks. Teddy’s family died during the Battle of Hogwarts. So, he lived with the Weasley and Potter families.

Unlike his father, Teddy did not become a werewolf, but he carried the metamorphic ability of his mother.

He went to Hogwarts in 2009 and later become a Head Boy during his seventh year.

NEWT SCAMANDER

Probably, you knew Newt Scamander as the famous Magizoologist. His love for magical creatures started when he was young. It was an influence of his mother who was a breeder of Hippogriffs.

He started in Hogwarts in 1908 but later expelled because he took the blame for her classmate (and a crush), Leta Lestrange.

Leta used a dark spell which placed her fellow student’s life in danger and its against the school rules. Newt got expelled even if Dumbledore knew he wasn’t at fault.

He joined the Ministry of Magic and had the chance to travel places around the world.

CEDRIC DIGGORY

Cedric Diggory served as the captain of the Hufflepuff quidditch team and is best known for his participation during the Triwizard tournament.

He gained the support of all the houses, including Slytherin, when he represented the Hogwarts champion for  the tournament.

He was one of the few who showed respect and kindness to Harry who was also picked as a representative.

Although Cedric had his glorious days, it also turned to be one of the most unfortunate stories. He was murdered by Peter Pettigrew, who was just following orders from Voldemort.

The death of Cedric sparked the desire of Hogwarts houses to form the army of Dumbledore.

NYMPHADORA TONKS

Nymphadora Tonks had her fair share of facing struggles in academics, but she managed to hold the identity of being one of the most brilliant witches and auror.

She is also a metamorphgus, which means she has the ability to shapeshift.

Nymphadora would’ve  not enjoyed the limelight if not because of the encouragement of Professor Sprout.

POMONA SPROUT

Hufflepuff won’t be the same without Pomona Sprout. She has a strong belief on the ability of all her students. In doing so, Pomona taught them how to build confidence in themselves.

Pomona is the head of Hufflepuff house and Herbology Department. She is a loyal friend to Minerva McGonagall despite being in a different house.

Her most remarkable contribution is the cultivation of Mandrakes used as antidote to the petrified victim of the Slytherin monsters.

HELGA HUFFLEPUFF

Helga Hufflepuff is the most famous among the members of the Hufflepuff house. She was a total reflection of compassion, loyalty, diligence and acceptance of others.

Being one of the corners of Hogwarts, Helga was able to unite the four houses despite their gaps and differences.

She even opened doors to elves by allowing them to work in the kitchen of Hogwarts so they can be freed from abuse and maltreatment.

Helga also fought for the right of muggle-born to be part of  Hogwarts,  and further emphasized that it shouldn’t be exclusive to pure-blooded witches and wizards.

She is a woman of character and words. That’s why the legacy of Hufflepuff lives on, all because of her kindness.
