Netflix coming through with international releases! This time, it’s leaning towards the phenomenons of Norway––more specifically, Hessalen’s UFO sighting. Blasted, the Norwegian comedy sci-fi film, has been ordered by the streaming giant and we’re all here for it! Here’s everything you need to know about the film.
What is Blasted all about?
Blasted follows the story of Sebastian and Mikkel, two childhood friends who are reunited during Sebastian’s bachelor party. On one hand, Mikkel hasn’t changed from his laser tag obsession and, well, continuing the past child prodigy he was. On the other hand, Sebastian has matured into a career-driven workaholic. The party, however, has been schemed by Sebastian all along in the hopes of impressing a client. The only problem is––aliens. An alien invasion crashes the party and it’s up to the two besties to fight side by side––channeling their inner laser tag skills––to fend off the aliens.
Never, in a million years, would I have thought that I would write “an alien invasion crashes the party” in one sentence. If you like this weird combination of genres, then Blasted is the one you should be looking out for in the future.
Who are attached to Netflix’s Blasted?
The film will be directed by none other than Legend of the Ghost Dagger‘s Martin Sofiedal alongside writers Emanuel Nordrum and producer Are Heidenstrøm with Miso Film.
“It is very exciting to be the first Norwegian sci-fi comedy in production. We finally get clarity in the light phenomenon in Hessdalen.” Are Heidenstrøm, producer and CEO of Miso Film Norway

Blasted stars the likes of Axel Bøyum and Fredrik Skogsrud alongside Mathias Luppichini, André Sørum, Eirik Hallert, Evelyn Rasmussen Osazuwa, and Ingrid Bolsø Berdal.
According to Miso Film’s Heidenstrøm, he’s delighted to be a part of the production of the first Norwegian sci-fi comedy. I mean, that’s a niche genre and I also can’t believe that this is the first time it’s been done. He continued praising Nordrum and Sofiedal for creating such an amazing story that can not only enlighten what happened in Hessdalen but also get a laugh throughout.
Claire Willats, director of Nordics, said that Miso Films are great partners to have on board. She continued saying that this bold new concept is an exciting project to share worldwide––boasting of its humourous and action-packed scenes. What more can we expect from sci-fi comedy films?
When is the release date of Blasted on Netflix?
Blasted will release on Netflix in 2022 globally. It doesn’t sound so soon, but with the way things are going with the pandemic and how days can suddenly turn into weeks and months––audiences don’t need to befriend patience after all.
Plus, there are other Scandinavian films to watch on the streaming giant––especially during the recent months. We’re specifically looking at Loving Adults––the first Danish-language film that stars Game of Thrones‘ Dar Salim and The Bridge‘s Sonja Ricther. The film is directed by White Sand‘s Barbara Rothenborg. Basically, plenty of international content to look out for!
