Netflix Experiments Giving Out Free Subscriptions in India for Two Days

Netflix explores its experimental side after the quarantine success. What they’re up to, you ask? Well, the streaming giant has been planing a two-day “event” that will enable non-subscribers in India to stream hundreds of Netflix’s libraries without ever availing a subscription plan. So basically, they’re giving out free subscriptions in India.

Considering that India is the second most populated country in the world (only second to China), Netflix’s potentially biggest market is at the palm of their hands. Since China doesn’t allow Netflix to be in their domain, India is Netflix’s best bet in accommodating thousands and millions of people into their platform.

This move follows the news that the streaming giant has, unfortunately, ended their free trial periods. Earlier this October Netflix has decided to discontinue its option that enabled potential subscribers to test the streaming platform and what it offers via its free 30-day trial. Now, the streaming company is trying new marketing promotions such as discontinuing the paywall for some of its content, from movies to shows this year.

With that choice, they’re opting to focus on other strategies in marketing––one that would bring them tons of new subscribers. Greg Peters, Netflix’s Chief Operating Officer, confirmed that the promo on the company’s third-quarter earnings call, naming the proposed project “StreamFest” which is only available for India.

Peters believes that an event such as StreamFest “could really create an event.” According to Variety, the free trial will be starting on the 4th of December. However, if you’re hoping for a trial in the United States or someplace else, Peters did not open up any further information.

“We’re always looking at different marketing promotions to attract new members and give them a great Netflix experience,” a Netflix spokesperson told The Verge before the earnings call.

Is this a great move by Netflix? Let us know.
