Woah, woah, woah! Hold up, Netflix! Tomb Raider, Skull Island, Sonic Prime, and now Pacific Rim: The Black?! Glad you guys found your niche in animations. We all love it. Inspired by the film franchise of robots beating up huge monsters, the upcoming anime series will be coming to the streaming giant on the 4th of March, 2021 as it was first announced back in Fall of 2018.

Though the Netflix teaser doesn’t really reveal too much, it does so happen that more and more Kaiju are rising on Australian shores. Safety measurements involve the evacuation of everyone––except for teenage siblings Taylor and Hayley. Operating the abandoned Jaeger, their venture to find their missing parents while fighting off monsters are the most prevalent in the story.
Thor: Ragnarok‘s Craig Kyle and Wolverine and the X-Men‘s Greg Johnson will be the showrunners of the animated series co-produced by none other than Netflix and Legendary Entertainment. Scarily awesome, the streaming giant’s growing library of original animes is soon to become a force to be reckoned with. The list includes Altered Carbon: Resleeved, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Sonic Prime, and more.
The history of the franchise is, at best, an above average one. The 2013 Guillermo del Toro directed Pacific Rim movie was loved by both critics and audiences but lacked the revenue to become a box office hit. However, the love from the audience resulted in a sequel titled Pacific Rim: Uprising directed by Daredevil‘s Steven DeKnight in 2018. The things was, it, again, lacked the money. In fact, it made less than what the original made. To make a third instalment of the series would be a risk, at this point.
Maybe it’s all about knowing your strengths, and becoming an anime series might just be the move the franchise has to make to revive the story of Kaiju vs. Robots.
