‘The Queen’s Gambit’ Creator, Scott Frank, to Adapt Sci-Fi Series ‘The Sparrow’

If you’ve watched or heard about The Queen’s Gambit, then you know who exactly Scott Frank is. The creator of the worldwide-loved chess-revolving series has found a follow-up project that looks to be absolutely bonkers.

Reportedly, Frank is set to adapt Mary Doria Russell’s 1996 novel The Sparrow for FX. Directed by Emmy winner Johan Renck from Chernobyl, the duo has more than enough potential to make this project a sci-fi great.

The Sparrow revolves around a group of Jesuit priests and scientists, led by Father Emilio Sandoz, who gets into the vicinity of an extraterrestrial species. As most people would, the Vatican took it as a sign and developed a secret mission to a faraway planet in the efforts to prove that the existence of God is real. However, the mission comes to an end––failing, the only survivor is Father Sandoz who returns to Earth to face the Vatican-lead scandal.

FX Productions is set to produce The Sparrow alongside Frank and Renck to executively produce with Better Call Saul‘s Mark Johnson. Frank will be writing all of the show’s episodes. Undoubtedly, Frank’s talent in the industry is out-of-this-world. Being a two-time Oscar nominee for Best Adapted Screenplay because of Logan and Out of Sight, Frank is the perfect man to work on the series. He’s not a stranger to Netflix as well––in fact, because of Godless for the streaming giant, he’s been nominated for the Emmy three times.

The Queen’s Gambit, on the other hand, has been watched by millions of households around the world––giving it the honor of being the most-watched limited series from the streaming giant. Ever.
