The Fans Have Spoken: Netflix’s ‘Fate: The Winx Saga’ Isn’t What They Expected

Fate: The Winx Saga just dropped on Netflix alongside six episodes of pure action and fantasy. From what was once the quirkiest animated adventure series as a kid in Winx Club to a new teen drama adaptation. From the start, the streaming giant has already warned the watchers of its mature rating. Of course, it was easy to shrug off since fans couldn’t picture members of the club drinking alcohol, using drugs, and even smoking––but Netflix could.

As Netflix ruins yet another realm of our childhoods, a number of fans weren’t too happy with the adaptation as they skim through every episode since it released on the 22nd of January, 2021.

Following Bloom (Abigail Cowen), she goes on a mission to find out her mysterious fairy roots. Being brought up as a normal human being, Bloom––a changeling (a fairy kidnapped to be exchanged for a human baby at birth)––seeks the truth about her origins. In her mission to do so, she goes into the Otherworld and uncovers the dark truths of her past and how she came to be. Along the way, she meets more magical teens finding their paths.

What bothers fans the most is how the series completely separates itself from the original animated series––following the Netflix format of teen dramas that boasts of alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs. Given that the streaming giant does have its way with these genres, the 180-degree turn from an innocent childhood series to a substance-filled one is still difficult to fathom.
