There were a lot of sitcoms in the 1990s with a clumsy husband and a long-suffering wife. Some of these couples had children, while others did not (most did, though). The Upshaws is a throwback to those days, but with a twist: the clumsy husband has a tangled personal life. If you’re looking for a new family sitcom, The Upshaws could be just what you’re looking for.
This series wowed us with its incredible storyline in its first season and, of course, the outstanding performances by the actors. It was a ten-episode series, and we couldn’t say we were sad to see it come to an end. After watching the final episode, I’m sure people thought Netflix should have added at least five more episodes.
However, now that the first season has completed, we are happy that the series has been renewed. Because the first season received positive feedback. The series has been recognized by critics as well. So I believe we should expect an official Netflix announcement about the premier second season of this sitcom soon.
About ‘The Upshaws’ and What we Should Expect for Season 2
The Upshaws, a working-class African-American family in Indiana, try their hardest to make ends meet without a plan. Bennie, the charming and lovable family patriarch, is frequently at odds with his sister-in-law Lucretia, who only tolerates Bennie’s pranks for the benefit of her sister.

Wanda Sykes and Regina Hicks created the Netflix Original comedic series The Upshaws. Sykes is well-known for her stand-up comedy, both on and off the stage, and she has a number of Netflix stand-up specials. Hicks is a producer who has worked on shows such as Sister Sister and Girlfriends. This is what the producers said in an interview with Deadline:
“We are so excited we get to bring this amazing show back for a second season,” Hicks said. “And thankful that Netflix saw and felt all the love we got for this wonderful family. Looking forward to bringing more Upshaws’ joy to all who fell in love with them.”
Netflix has yet to announce a release date for the second season of The Upshaws. However, given that the second season will be released in two batches of eight episodes, it’s not out of the question that the following batch of episodes would arrive before the end of the year.
