Netflix’s ‘Cowboy Bebop’ Live-Action Series: Release Date, Plot, and Cast

Not only has Netflix expanded its anime catalogs, but the streaming giant has also decided to adapt one of the most classic and most loved animes into a live-action series. There are but a handful of animes on that list and one of them is undoubtedly Cowboy Bebop. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming series––and, finally, its elusive release date.

What is Cowboy Bebop all about?

Cowboy Bebop is an upcoming Netflix Original live-action sci-fi series based on Hajime Yatate’s manga of the same name. After a swift run by the first volume from 1997 to 1998, the anime adaptation soon followed suit. By then, not only was the manga skyrocketing to popularity but so did the anime. Even today, Cowboy Bebop is being watched throughout the world. Some would even say that it’s, arguably, the best anime in the world.

The story of the manga/anime revolves around the year 2071 when most of humanity has taken various planets and moons for their own. This was made possible because of what happened half a century ago when Earth was left uninhabitable after the consequences of a hyperspace gateway. Even in space, crime still roams free and the Inter Solar System Police have legalized space bounty hunters––or what they like to call “Cowboys” who chase criminals all across the solar system.

Inside the spaceship named Bebop, we see Spike Siegal, Jet Black, Faye Valentine, Edward Wong, and Ein running rampant as the Cowboys. You see how the title was made now, yeah?

When is the release date for Cowboy Bebop‘s live-action on Netflix?

We did predict that the live-action would release in the latter half of the year, and it will. Cowboy Bebop will be arriving in the streaming giant in the Fall of 2021!

All thanks to Netflix’s Geeked Week, we received special gifts in the forms of the soundtrack, the cast, and the release date. After composing the original Cowboy Bebop soundtrack, the iconic Yoko Kanno is set to return to compose the live-action series’ soundtrack.

Who are attached to Cowboy Bebop‘s live-action?

The following have been confirmed to star in Cowboy Bebop:

  • John Cho (Star Trek, Harold & Kumar) as Spike Spiegel
  • Alex Hassell (Cold Mountain, Two Down) as Vicious
  • Danielle Pineda (Jurassic World, The Vampire Diaries) as Faye Valentine
  • Mustafa Shakir (Luke Cage, Quarry) as Jet Black

Daredevil‘s Alex Garcia Lopez will be directing the series. Lopez is guided by 12 writers with one of them as Thor Ragnarok‘s very own Christoper L. Yost who also serves as an executive producer for the live-action series.

As for the production behind the series, Tomorrow Studios will be behind the Netflix adaptation. Currently, the studio is working on One Piece‘s live-action for the streaming giant as well.
