New Netflix Sci-Fi Thriller Series ‘The Silent Sea’ Starring Gong Yoo

Get ready for more Korean content on Netflix with the brand-new K-Drama Series ‘The Silent Sea’ featuring a famous Korean actor Gong Yoo. The show will also feature Bae Doona and Lee Joon as additional main leads. The series is based on the short film ‘The Sea of Tranquility’ by Choi Hang Yong in 2014.

The Silent Sea is set in the year 2075, where the earth is undergoing a process of desertification which made it challenging for human habitation. The special team lead by Han Yoon Jae (Gong Yoo) is tasked to retrieve important samples from an abandoned lunar research station. Aside from the retrieval operation, a scientist named Dr. Song Ji Ahn (Bae Doona) joined the team to unravel the mystery behind the accident that took place in the research station on the moon.

Release Date, Trailer, and Production Updates

Netflix officially announced that the series will also be directed by Choi Hang Yong with Park Eun Kyo as the screenwriter for the series. Reports say that the executive producer for the upcoming series is Jung Woo-sung. The Silent Sea will be produced by Artist Studio in which it will only be released worldwide through Netflix only.

Reports say that the production of the series already started last August 2020. So far, a trailer hasn’t been released and there were no updates or news about it from Netflix. The release date was officially announced to premiere in December 2021.

Official Cast Members

Gong Yoo is the lead actor of the series playing as Han Yoo Jae. Gong Yoo is also a top Korean actor who starred in the Korean hit drama “Goblin” (2016). He is also the main actor in the popular sci-fi thriller movie “Train to Busan” (2016).

Popular Korean actress Bae DooNa is also one of the main leads. She is featured in the Netflix drama “Kingdom” (2019-present) and Korean movies such as “Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance” (2002), “The Host” (2006), and “Air Doll” (2009).

Lee Joon is also reported as one of the main actors and is a former member of K-Pop group ‘MBLAQ’ which previously starred in a number of K-drama like “Rough Play” (2013), “Gapdong” (2014), “My Father is Strange” (2017). He plays as Captain Ryu Tae-Seok which is an elite from the Ministry of National Defense

Some supporting casts were also revealed by Netflix with Heo Sung-tae as Kim Jae-sun (chief of Resource Group of Aviation Administration) and Lee Moo-saeng as Gong Soo-hyuk (head of the security team).
