Peacock’s ‘The Office’ Goes Inside of ‘The Matrix: Never-Before-Seen Opening from the Legendary Series

The Office has finally and officially moved from Netflix to come to NBC’s streaming platform, Peacock, on the 1st of January, 2021. The streamer let fans know of the debut by posting what seems to be a snipper of a never-before-seen opening from the series on Twitter. Considering the percentage of people starting and finishing the series (which I would assume is pretty high), new content would surely be rejuvenating.

As for the clip, it shows Pam (Jenna Fischer) and Jim (John Krasinski) prank Dwight (Rainn Wilson) who is pretty adamant about having entered the Matrix.

The clip starts as normal as any The Office episodes––which is either weird or funny. Dwight was valiantly working at his desk when suddenly, a black cat runs across his door at the Dunder Mifflin office. Shoving the idea to the side, a second black cat runs across the floor again. By then, his desktop screen has been taken over by some anonymous used, typing, “Have you ever felt that something was not right in the world?”

If you ever felt like this is some callback to something, then yes, you would absolutely be right. This scene mirrors the plot of the 1999 sci-fi masterpiece, The Matrix, where an office worker in Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) learns that his reality is actually constructed by machines that have forcefully enslaved the rest of the human race.

In the show’s confessionals, Jim says that “in the original ‘Matrix’ movie, seeing the same cat twice was a glitch in the system. It proved that the Matrix was real.

Training the cat was both easier and more boring than I thought it would be. It basically involved putting down little piles of treats,” Pam continues.

As the clip continues, Dwight is then instructed to go to the warehouse to meet Hank (Hugh Dane), aka Dorpheus who is the brother of Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) in the movie. Now, Dwight is in a dilemma: the red pill or the blue pill?
