Netflix’s ‘Shaman King’ Season 1: Release Date, Plot and Cast

Netflix has no business to be this busy for a wild anime lineup throughout the Summer of 2021. With the arrival of TreseEden’s Zero, and more, there’s another anime coming to town: Shaman King. Here’s everything you need to know before the upcoming anime drops on the streaming giant!

What is Shaman King all about?

Shaman King is an internationally licensed Netflix Original. The new shonen anime series, adapted from Hiroyuki Takei’s manga of the same name, will be the reboot to the 2001 adaptation of the manga. From the animation behind Fairy Tail and Talentless Nana, Bridge, the animation studio, will serve behind the scenes.

The series revolves around Manta Oyamada, probably the most normal middle school student you’ll ever see in a series. Knowing that it’s a shonen, however, then you’re in for a surprise when it’s revealed that he has the power to see spirits. A time comes when his powers are shown and right then and there, Oyamada has been enlisted to help You Asakura, a shaman-in-training. Asakura plans to become the next Shaman King, however, Asakura must first participate in a Shaman fight––a tournament where all the strong shamans are gathered to fight to determine who deserves the seat of the king.

When is the release date of  Shaman King Season 1 on Netflix?

This week has been a huge thanks to Netflix’s Geeked Week––and Shaman King is no exception. The announcement, of course, came from the official @NetflixGeeked Twitter account which confirmed that the first season of the anime series will be dropping on the 9th of August, 2021.

As of the time of writing, Japan is still broadcasting the series through their network in TV Tokyo.

How many episodes will there be for Shaman King?

The plan for the series is to split 52 episodes into four volumes––a plan that would also benefit the eventual Blu-Ray release of the series. Therefore, we can expect that the series would be boasting 13 episodes per season.

The Blu-Rays, on the other hand, have completely different release dates:

  • August 25th, 2021
  • November 24th, 2021
  • February 23rd, 2022
  • May 25th, 2022

If anything, this could also be clues as to when the next three seasons of the anime will be released on Netflix. If all goes as planned, then the next three seasons would drop on the streaming platform by November 2021 (Season 2), February 2022 (Season 3), and May 2022 (Season 4).

Who are the cast members of Shaman King?

The following are part of the main cast members for the Japanese dub of the anime:

  • Youko Hikasa as You Asakura
  • Minami Takayama as Hao Asakura
  • Megumi Hayashibara as Anna Kyouyama
  • Romi Park as Ren Tao
