Another post-apocalyptic series on Netflix ends––but this one doesn’t involve zombies. The streaming giant’s Sweet Tooth fable concluded its first season on a freaking major cliffhanger. The question is: will we be getting answers to our questions from another season? Well, here’s everything to look forward to for Sweet Tooth!

What is Sweet Tooth all about?

Sweet Tooth revolves around the story of Gus (Christian Convery), one of the first generation of children who were born as “hybrids” or those who are one part human and one part animal. As more hybrids were born, humanity starts to deplete after the emergence of a lethal and highly contagious virus (wow, how timely). A mere decade later, these hybrid children were hunted down for experimentation. Gus, however, decides to prove that he’s the bravest of them all––choosing to face the outside world and the rest of the woodland to search for his mother. Along the way, he gets help from Tommy Jepperd (Nonso Anozie).

Sweet Tooth, based on Jeff Lemire’s Vertigo comics, didn’t take the high road when it came to the screen. Like all series that planned their schedules for 2020 and maybe the first part of 2021, production was disturbed by a real-life lethal and contagious virus. However, the series is glad to know that the first season of Sweet Tooth worked like a charm. Fans all over the world have said their piece about the series––and no bad mouth is in sight. Having a powerful first season, however, doesn’t mean they automatically warrant Season 2, right?

Has Sweet Tooth been renewed for Season 2?

Unfortunately, there hasn’t been any news for a Season 2… yet. The streaming giant is usually very technical with this––not to mention very systematic in deciding whether or not a series warrants the next season. Typically, Netflix takes about a couple of weeks or months, based on the show’s performance, to reach a conclusion.

However, that isn’t always the case. The recent discussion about Netflix and Jupiter’s Legacy, for one, is evidence for this. The series was part of the Top 10 list for a couple of weeks. The thing is, it was criticized rather strongly by critics and fans on social media. With that, it was cancelled by Netflix––but will be replaced by another project from the Millarworld Universe instead. The good thing for Sweet Tooth is that it was actually dearly loved by the fans.

When is the release date of Sweet Tooth Season 2 on Netflix?

The first season of Sweet Tooth ended its production in January 2021 and was released five months later on the streaming giant (June 2021). Ideally, if Season 2 was to happen, production would have to be quick on their feet and begin filming as soon as they can because naturally, young boys like Convery can become noticeably young men in years time. If the series starts off production towards the end of 2021, we could be seeing a release either during the summer of 2022 or later.
