Netflix Finally Renews ‘The Umbrella Academy’ for a Third Season

Finally, finally, finally! Netflix has finally come to their senses and relieve the anxiety that’s been building in thousands and millions of their subscribers. In case you missed it, The Umbrella Academy will be coming back for a third season!

The streaming giant has officially renewed possibly their most popular superhero series for its third outing. Considering the fact, some series get renewed even before their previous seasons even come out––so it’s very surprising that it took three months after the second season for renewal. To add to that, the second season of The Umbrella Academy has been notorious for being the most-watched show on the platform during its first week of existence.

The third season will be boasting 10 episodes under its belt running for an hour each. Reportedly, production is set to begin in February 2021 in Toronto, Canada.

The cast of the third season will feature the same cast you’ve learned to love in the past two, including Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya, and Colm Feore. Behind the scenes, Altered Carbon‘s Steve Blackman will be returning as the showrunner and executive producer.

The Umbrella Academy is based on Gerard Way’s comic book series of the same name. Alongside Way are Gabriel Bá as the illustrator and Dark Horse Comics to serve as the publishers.

With Blackman, the third season will be executively produced by director Jeff F. King, Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, and Kesse McKeown. Way and Bá will also be serving as co-executive producers.

The second season wrapped up in a real cliffhanger––so if you’re not into spoilers, we’d suggest you move on to the next paragraph or so. The siblings were in a bit of a debacle in the time and space continuum and Five, played by Aidan Gallagher, landed  right in the middle of doomsday resulted by the siblings’ disruption of the timeline.

As for the third season, we’d likely see the siblings make their efforts to reunite and stop the nuclear doomsday. Of course, all the while hunted by the Swedish assassins.
