Every time a new group of gods or super-powered beings show up in the MCU, one question always comes to mind. Where were they during Avengers: Endgame?
And so far, the MCU has, or at least tried to, give an explanation.
- The Eternals were instructed not to interfere with any conflicts not involving Deviants.
- The Time Variance Authority (TVA) didn’t really care as it was out of their jurisdiction and wouldn’t affect them.
- Ying Nan (Shang-Chi’s aunt) implied that Ta Lo was in another universe and so has nothing to do with Thanos’ plans and would also not be affected by them (though this is still up for debate).
- The Egyptian Gods or the Ennead had some sort of agreement that they would no longer interfere with the mortal realm.

But with the most recent one, the gods of Omnipotence City, there was hardly any (if any, maybe I missed something) reason given at all as to why they didn’t assist the Avengers in the battle against Thanos.
Disclaimer: It should go without saying, but this article will contain some big spoilers for the new MCU movie: Thor: Love and Thunder.
Omnipotent City
In Thor: Love and Thunder: Thor, Jane Foster, Valkyrie, and Korg turn towards Omnipotent City seeking an army to help them fight Gorr the God Butcher. Omnipotent City, if you couldn’t tell by the name, is apparently a “hub of the gods”. A place where gods from all kinds of mythologies gathered to meet and… have orgies apparently.
But anyway, it makes you wonder, an army of incredibly powerful gods would have made turning Thanos’s army into minced meat a piece of cake… or meat (why must I be cringe). So why didn’t they help out?
Well, if the MCU won’t tell us, we’ll just have to come up with reasons ourselves. So buck up and put on your tinfoil hats people, we nerding.
Theory 1: Like Ta Lo, Omnipotence City classifies as a “different universe”
The Dimension of Ta Lo
In the MCU movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, we see another mystical city filled with super-powered people, Ta Lo. Well, to say it’s a city isn’t exactly correct. Ta Lo is actually an entire dimension where Chinese gods and creatures of Chinese mythology resided, and according to Ying Nan, it’s even a different universe altogether.
Whether or not Ta Lo is truly in another universe in the MCU is something that’s debated among fans (it’s possible that Ying Nan just confused the concepts of “dimension” and “universe”). But it would explain why they didn’t help the Avengers fight Thanos. It’s because the infinity stones wouldn’t work outside the MCU’s main universe and so the people of Ta Lo wouldn’t feel threatened by him.
So maybe Omnipotent City is simply another example of a dimension like Ta Lo where the snap would have no effects.
Theory 2: Gods simply were not affected by the snap

This one is another concept that hasn’t really been proven but hasn’t really been disproven as well. It’s never mentioned whether the Asgardian population was cut in half again during the snap. The same goes for the gods in Ta Lo and the Egyptian gods shown in the Disney+ show Moon Knight.
Thor didn’t disappear during the snap either, and he was the only god we had clear eyes on during the events of Infinity War and Endgame. But you would think something like the population of the gods being cut in half would have been mentioned at least once, right?
If gods somehow have immunity to the snap, then that would be a clear reason why the residents of Omnicity didn’t bother to fight.
Another possibility I’d like to add is maybe Thanos intentionally tried avoiding killing the gods because they acted as the regulators of the universe in the MCU and he maybe believed that they could lead the survivors of the snap to a better future? I’m just spit-balling now, maybe you have an idea? I’d love to hear it in the comments!
Theory 3: They just… didn’t care?
Most of the gods shown in Thor: Love and Thunder were narcissistic beings that only cared about themselves and no one else. They even ignored a plea to stop the god butcher whose main goal is to literally kill all the gods including them. So, they probably don’t even care for their fellow gods in Omnipotent City. I think it’s possible that they just didn’t care what happened and just wanted to have a good time partying while it lasted, and come what may.
It’s also a possibility that since they didn’t care, they didn’t even know Thanos’ whole plan to wipe out half the universe. If they knew they were even in any danger, maybe they would have done something about it? But again, they didn’t assist with taking down a guy called “the god butcher” so maybe not.
It may sound stupid and illogical, but hey, they’re spoiled people who’ve lived for thousands of years and have probably gotten everything they’ve wanted since birth. Something like that could seriously mess with your logic and moral compass.
