After winning Anime of the Year during Crunchyroll’s fifth annual Anime Awards, people have been looking for Jujutsu Kaisen left and right––and they should. With Netflix’s wide array of anime titles, you’d be surprised not to see the anime in their catalog––and sadly, it isn’t, not unless you’re Japan. Since the anime came out, Netflix subscribers let the streaming giant know of their demand for Jujutsu Kaisen.

The shonen anime series is certainly something to look forward to, but is there something to look forward to in the first place? Well, here’s everything you need to know about the future of the anime on Netflix.
What is Jujutsu Kaisen all about?
Jujutsu Kaisen is a Japanese shonen anime adaptation directly lifted from the manga of the same name by Gege Akutami. The franchise has become one of the most sought-for and most popular ones in Japan. Ever since the manga’s release in Japan, over 36 million copies of it sold––worldwide. Talk about global dominance, eh?
As for the series, the production is handled by the animation studio Mappa, who has greatly deserved all its praise from animating the fantasy series. Mappa has had one of the greatest runs of its career in the last year because they’re the studio responsible for the final season of Attack on Titan, quite possibly the biggest anime on Netflix right now.
According to What’s on Netflix, this is the main storyline of the anime series:
“In order to save his Occult Research Club friends from a curse, highschooler Yuji Itadori swallows a cursed object that houses the extremely powerful curse Sukuna. Itadori is able to retain his body but is sentenced to death by the Jujutsu sorcerers, an order of powerful cursed users that exorcise curses. His death sentence is postponed when Itadori agrees to join the Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School where he will learn how to use cursed energy himself and fine the remaining fingers of Sakuna.“
Is Jujutsu Kaisen available to stream on Netflix?
Like we’ve said, it isn’t available in any region but one. Yes, Jujutsu Kaisen is available to stream on the streaming giant, but the only region available with the anime in the catalog is Japan. Lucky Japan––getting all the good animes. I mean, they do create it as well so… touché, Japan. The first season has been airing on a weekly basis in Japan––but it’s not as simple as just using a VPN to access that library. Absolutely zero of the current episodes on Netflix are available to stream alongside English subtitles. Basically, if you don’t understand the Japanese language, you’re left in the dark.
Where can I stream Jujutsu Kaisen in my country?
If you really want to watch what Crunchyroll dubbed as the Anime of the Year, then you need to have a subscription to Crunchyroll. Wait, why does it look like Crunchyroll just awarded that to the anime so they’d have more subscriptions? Well, I guess we’ll leave that to the mythbusters of the world. Either way, outside of Asia, Crunchyroll is the only platform with an exclusive streaming license.
While there, subscribers have access to dubs and subs in different languages (thankfully) such as English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, and French. Quite the deal if you ask me––especially if you’re a big anime fan.
However, there’s still a way for you to watch Jujutsu Kaisen in the United States. The English dub of the anime is available to stream on HBO Max.
Will Jujutsu Kaisen come to Netflix in the future?
Now, this is a problem. It’s looking more and more blurry as time goes by, but it’s looking like Netflix isn’t getting Jujutsu Kaisen anytime soon––especially when it’s still under HBO Max. Considering how wonderfully the anime is going, HBO Max would probably like to get a hold of it for a longer time.
