WEDNESDAY Is RETURNING On Netflix? Everything You Need To Know About Season 2

The adventures of Wednesday Addams at Nevermore Academy have only just begun… The second season is already on the way.

Wednesday Addams

‘Wednesday’ will have a second season among Netflix series. It was somewhat obvious shortly after its debut. We had reasons and arguments: in addition to being one of the best Netflix series in 2022 (and one of the best series of 2022 overall), the premiere of ‘Wednesday’ was a resounding success on the platform, breaking records and ranking among the most-watched in its history. So, what was Netflix waiting for to renew the series? It wasn’t until early January 2023 that Netflix confirmed the season with a teaser announcement.

The series directed by Tim Burton has taken us into the classrooms of ‘Nevermore,’ the school for social misfits where Jenna Ortega steps into the pale skin of Wednesday Addams. The first season of ‘Wednesday’ has been marked by mysteries, and although the psychic and detective skills of the youngest Addams have revealed almost all of them, at the end of the eighth and final episode, the door seems open to continuing with her story. As we pointed out, the numbers support it: ‘Wednesday’ has broken all viewing records on Netflix, surpassing even ‘Stranger Things.’ According to their data, the series accumulated 341.2 million hours of viewing worldwide, surpassing the 335 million hours of ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 in the week from May 30 to June 5.

Jenna Ortega As Wednesday Addams

In an interview with Empire, co-creators Alfred Gough and Miles Miller have revealed that they are optimistic about the future potential of ‘Wednesday,’ referring to the episodes released as the “first” season of the series. Hinting that he and Millar have discussed what could come next, Gough states that they are eager to explore the rest of the ‘Addams Family’ universe.Miles and I are talking about it. There’s a lot more to explore in the world of the Addams.”

“Wednesday,” Season 2: release date

Netflix has already announced that there will be a Season 2, and filming will begin at the end of April this year. What is less clear is whether Tim Burton would return as the director, as in the first season, he directed only half of the episodes, and fellow filmmakers Gandja Monteiro and James Marshall could take over (or new names).

Considering these dates, it is likely that we will have to wait until 2025 to continue with the adventures of Wednesday Addams on Netflix.

“Wednesday,” Season 2: Synopsis

The possibilities are endless. Logically, the plot could be set in a new school year at ‘Nevermore,‘ following a similar structure to the ‘Harry Potter movies (with which the Netflix series shares several parallels). However, it would be spectacular to move the action to the Addams mansion and regularly bring back several of their iconic characters: Uncle Fester, Cousin It, the grandmother…

In an interview with TVLine, the creator talked about the possible story of Season 2 and how the protagonist will have to learn to deal with her friendships (and her emotions):

“The series is really about a girl who sees the world in black and white, and she has to learn that there are also shades of grey. I think, like any relationship or friendship, it can be complicated by other factors. It’s never going to be easy. And it’s her learning to navigate the ups and downs of friendship.”

“Wednesday,” Season 2: Cast

Jenna Ortega’s return is mandatory as Wednesday Addams. The actress had a giant challenge ahead of her, considering that Christina Ricci’s Wednesday is an icon of popular culture. However, Ortega has more than fulfilled the role and is the main success of this franchise reboot. Thing, the severed hand that accompanies her everywhere, is the other great performance in the series. Seriously, we mean it. It has to come back, no doubt about it.

Other members of the family, such as Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), Gomez (Luis Guzmán), Pugsley (Isaac Ordoñez), Lurch (George Burcea), and Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen), should return, as well as Wednesday’s best friends at ‘Nevermore Academy,’ Enid (Emma Myers), Xavier (Percy Hynes White), Bianca (Joy Sunday), and Eugene (Moosa Mostafa).

Those we could rule out for obvious reasons are Christina Ricci as Professor Thornhill, Director Weems (Gwendoline Christie), and Dr. Kinbott (Riki Lindhome). We are uncertain about Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan) because we don’t know if we will pick up his story or if it will be set aside from the plot.

“Wednesday,” Season 2: Trailer and Images

We will be attentive to any news to update with the first images and the first trailer of the second season of ‘Wednesday’ as soon as they are released.
