‘Shadow and Bone’ Season 2: Reports of Renewal, Plot, and Final Season?

Woah, woah, woah! Hold your horses, Netflix! That was fast of you, wasn’t it? After numerous news about Shadow and Bone‘s release date for the first season, we’re here already talking about the renewal for Season 2. It was a quiet one, but it proves how much the streaming giant actually loves the upcoming series created by Eric Heisserer.

Actually, it wasn’t just Shadow and Bone. There have also been confirmed renewal orders for OzarkFate: The Winx Club, and Warrior Nun. The list also includes the likes of Umbrella AcademySpace ForceOn My Block, and Locke & Key. Either way, it looks like the streaming giant is renewing the list of their most popular series.

What is Shadow and Bone all about?

Shadow and Bone is an upcoming fantasy TV series developed by Eric Heisserer alongside 21 Laps Entertainment. As it stands, the first season isn’t even out yet but is slated to premiere globally on the 23rd of April, 2021.

The series is lifted from two novels of Bardugo’s Grishaverse––the novel of the same name and Six of Crows. The story revolves around a world split into two by unknown darkness filled with monsters and flesh-eaters. It follows a young soldier named Alina Starkov who resides in the Kingdom of Ravka. After a couple of convenient sequences of events, she discovers a power that has the potential to save two of her most important priorities: her best friend and the whole country. However, as she starts to get a grip of the power, forces of the country unite against her and General Kirigan is the only person who can help.

In a recent interview, Bardugo said this about the show:

Shadow and Bone takes place in a very different kind of fantasy world. Think Imperial Russia, not Medieval England, repeating rifles instead of broadswords. It’s a story about the people who have been told how much they don’t matter proving how much they do. And it’s been incredible to see that story take shape on such an epic scale, the battles, the magic, but also the relationships between the characters.

Will season two be the final season of Shadow and Bone?

This is a question begging to be asked, at this point. Though it is unknown whether or not this marks the end of the series, the early renewal does pose Netflix’s huge confidence in the show––as if they’re expecting an even bigger storyline in the near future. This will all be tested the time the first season releases, though.

This type of renewal isn’t a new tactic by the streaming giant. In fact, it hasn’t even been confirmed by the streamer themselves. The official confirmation might come to us by the time the first season releases. Take, for example, Bridgerton and The Irregulars wherein both series have been given the green light ahead of their first seasons. However, the latter has already planned to begin filming during the upcoming summer.

So don’t be surprised if these reports of a second season are taken back. Until Netflix officially confirms the renewal, we’re all just here waiting for the first season to arrive.
