‘A Classic Horror Story’: The Netflix Italian Horror Film’s Release Date, Plot, Cast, and Trailer

Why is Netflix like this? October is literally five months away and they’re already releasing some hard-punching horror films. For one, the streaming giant just dropped the trailer for the Italian horror thriller A Classic Horror Story which will serve to pay homage to the legends of Dario Argento and Mario Brava whilst becoming a movie of its own.

What is A Classic Horror Story all about?

A Classic Horror Story revolves around five carpoolers who travel in a motorhome to arrive at one place. As the sun slowly goes to slumber and the night awakens, they crash into a tree in an effort to avoid crashing into an animal. When their senses come back to them, they find themselves in the middle of nowhere. The road they were just driving on a little while ago suddenly disappeared and in front of them is only a dense, seemingly indestructible forest with a wooden house built in the middle of it. When they discover that this house is used by a cult, everything changes and disaster finally strikes one by one.

Who are attached to A Classic Horror Story?

The horror film is co-directed by Robert De Feo and Paolo Strippoli––both pretty new, yet experienced, in the film scene. De Feo, on one hand, launched The Nest in 2019 during the Locarno Film Festival while Strippoli is working on his first feature film. If anything, this A Classic Horror Story will set the tone for their future work and the opportunities they will soon create for themselves.

The streaming giant’s A Classic Horror Story was produced by Milan-based Colorado Film and was shot over five weeks in Italy’s southern Apulia region and in Rome. When in Rome, am I right? No, nothing? Well, moving on!

The cast of the Netflix horror film includes:

  • Francesco Russo
  • Peppino Mazzotta
  • Yulia Sobol
  • Will Merrick
  • Alida Baldari Calabria
  • Cristina Donadio
  • Matilda Lutz

Lutz is a big star of this film as she’s been seen in films all around the world. Having starred in F. Javier Gutierrez’s Rings and Coralie Fargeat’s Revenge, it wouldn’t be a surprise if you said “I know her” when it finally drops on the streaming giant.

What does this mean for Italy’s horror genre?

Italian cinema has slowly but surely coming back to its horror film roots. I mean, they’ve been known for chilling films since the 60s and 70s. This Italian film culture wasn’t necessarily forgotten, it was just overshadowed by superhero films, romcoms, and problematic teenage relationships. However, with A Classic Horror Story and other films like Non Mi Uccidere (Don’t Kill), the country’s on its way to revisiting one of the best times of their entertainment years.

When is the release date of A Classic Horror Story?

The horror film is set to stream on the streaming giant on the 14th of July, 2021. Watch the trailer below!
