Netflix Releases the Trailer for ‘Sexy Beasts’

We are no strangers to South Korea’s The Masked Singer, but do you have what it takes to join The Masked… Dater? That’s the underlying concept of Sexy Beasts, Netflix’s new dating series, which debuted its first trailer today. Sexy Beasts, which will premiere on the streaming site on July 21, follows lovelorn men and women on blind dates while wearing intricate prosthetics that hide their true identities.

About ‘Sexy Beasts’ and Other Interesting Information

It’s worth noting that Netflix didn’t come up with this crazy concept: Sexy Beasts debuted in 2014 as a British reality show that aired for only one season. (That version is currently available on Tubi in the United States.) In 2015, the show was adapted into German and South Korean versions, both of which were similarly short-lived. With the help of Hollywood prosthetic artist Kristyan Mallett, who is well known for her work in Mission: Impossible and The Theory of Everything, each of the person’s dates will be dressed up as an animal or magical creature. The featured single person will choose who they want to continue dating at the end of the episode, and only then will their “real secret identity” be revealed.

We won’t know who signed up for this incredibly intriguing Netflix show until it airs, so we’ll have to wait until then. But one thing is certain: each episode will feature a permanent narrator, who will be played by Catastrophe’s Rob Delaney.

The Netflix adaptation, based on Twitter feedback, may have more staying power. The Sexy Beasts teaser went viral almost immediately after it was released on social media, with hundreds of perplexed fans eagerly pledging to see it. Some people desire to be a sexy beast themselves, rather than merely watch Sexy Beasts. The posts with the question “Which animal would you be?” were hot and heavy.

Isn’t it sounding like we’re in for a wild romantic ride? Let’s all watch out for the premier of the Sexy Beasts and let us know your thoughts in the comments!
