Has the world gone mad? So it has, and Netflix is no exception.
Yoozoo Group’s chairman, Lin Qi, is set to executively produce the one of the streaming giant’s biggest sci-fi adaptations to date in The Three-Body Problem. However, Lin Qi is currently hospitalized in Shanghai after what’s been reported as a deliberate poisoning by a colleague, police said on Wednesday.
According to the Shanghai Public Security Bureau, at 7 PM local time, a male, 39-year-old patient surnamed ‘Lin’ was “suspected of having been poisoned while receiving diagnosis and treatment at a hospital,” their official social media account said. The report of the incident was sent on the 17th of December.
The statement continued: “After on-site surveys and investigations, it was discovered that Lin’s colleague surnamed Xu (male, 39) was suspected of committing a major crime. At present, Xu has been criminally detained by the police in accordance with the law, and related investigations are being further carried out.”
In September, the streaming giant announced that they will be adapting all three books of The Three-Body Problem trilogy by Liu Cixin. The production boasts of names such as Game of Thrones creators in David Benioff and D.B. Weiss alongside writer and exectuive producer Alexander Woo.
The streaming giant has acquired the rights to adapt the series in English from Yoozoo, a video game developer. Reportedly, the Chinese adaptations for the film and TV industry are currently in the works despite the pandemic.
