Have you already matched with the one? Or rather, have you found The One? Yup, the one that’s streaming on Netflix? Well, if you have, then chances are you’re already looking forward to a second season––but hold your horses there, cowboy. Howard Overman’s sci-fi drama just dropped on the streaming giant and household after household have already watched the series. Despite being left with a handful of unanswered questions, the real question here is whether or not The One will be returning for Season 2?
What is The One all about?
The One is Howard Overman’s Netflix Original sci-fi crime series based on the novel of the same name by John Marrs. If you didn’t know, maybe Marrs is responsible for your favorite read as he boasts novels such as The Good Samaritan and When You Disappeared. Overman, on the other hand, has already shared his genius to the world––creating Channel 4’s very own Misfits and also helped in creating the modern adaptation of H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds.
What is The One Season 2’s Netflix Renewal Status?
On the 12th of March, the first season of The One premiered on Netflix. With that, you could say that it’s too early to tell whether or not the streaming giant is ready to announce the fate of the sci-fi series. By Netflix’s standards, renewal can take up to a couple of months––but if the series performs so well, it could even take less than a week. By the looks of it, it looks like the series is banking on the latter as they’re already peaking on US top 10 lists.
However, it isn’t only in the United States. The One has burst into the top 10 lists of a whopping 71 countries all across the globe. The more impressive thing, really, is that it only existed for under a week at the time of writing.
The One has clearly made a statement––becoming one of the most popular series to date on the streaming giant. At this point, it would be a sin not to hope for a second season. In the next couple of weeks, we’re hoping that Netflix gives us just the right amount of information to let the people know that the possibility of a second season looms around the dark.
What to expect from The One Season 2?
As fans of the series, people already have unanswered questions. Some concern Kate and Sebastian, some are theorizing about who Hannah ends up with, while some just want to know if the truth about “The One” will be revealed in the second season.
SPOILER ALERT! The latter is a general consensus––everyone wants to know the answer to that.
Kate, by all means, can’t prove that Rebecca actually murdered Ben. However, she remains to be the recipient of one of the greatest scandals regarding The One. If Rebecca doesn’t reveal to the world that siblings can match with the same person and vice-versa, then Kate has the upper-hand in taking down Rebecca. The drama just escalates from here and it’s all just a matter of Netflix’s decision to renew the series.
When is The One Season 2’s Netflix release date?
First of all, this remains to be unknown until the renewal of the series is done and dusted. However, if we assume that The One has already been renewed, then it might be easier for us to put in a timetable.
The first season needed six to seven months of filming (from December 2019 to June 2020). It looks as though it could’ve been shorter because it was, indeed, affected by the pandemic. If anything, the second season’s filming won’t go as long as the first.
The 3rd and 4th Quarters of 2022 sound promising, though, as we’re likely not seeing the series return to Netflix in 2021.
