As you may have known, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be opening its newest storytelling avenue to the world through the small screen (Disney+). First on the list will be WandaVision which is set to release this week. Despite tie-ins to the MCU through small-screen series like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel’s head honcho Kevin Feige did confirm that the Disney+ era is a different breed of tie-ins with the big-screen.
One series that may have passed above the heads of the fans is Secret Invasion. Of course, the biggest of names include WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, and more, but the 2008 comic book storyline is something to look out for as well. The story revolves around the shape-shifting aliens known as the Skrulls. These aliens abduct our Marvel heroes and take their place in the world––infiltrating the superhero community and therefore, Earth as well. You may remember them through Captain Marvel from the MCU.
During an interview with Feige with Collider, he said:
“I mean, we’re interested in the political paranoia aspect of Secret Invasion and really showcasing the stars with Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Ben Mendelsohn (Skrull Talos), two amazing actors that you want to have in any series, and we’re very lucky to have them for that,” Feige said. “That’s the sort of primary focus of that and, of course, it will tie into other things and the Skrulls in ways you haven’t seen before, but yes, anything could be anything. Wise words… But we wanted to do that as a series because it would allow us to do something different than we’ve done before.”
