The Umbrella Academy is now filming in Toronto, with production scheduled to go through August. The series is currently known by the code name “Chroma,” and is based on Gerard Way’s comic book series “The Umbrella Academy”. Elliot Page and Tom Hopper, the two notable cast members are still starring the show in its comeback.
The 3rd Season’s Plot
After averting two world-ending apocalypses, there’s a strong probability that averting another Armageddon will be on the table. If it didn’t, it would be a welcome change of pace, but given that the comics are full of apocalyptic threats, expect another one in season 3.

What we do know is that The Umbrella Academy will clash with a superpowered gang that looks strikingly similar. The Sparrow Academy, a supposedly other reality group with its own set of talents, was presented in the season 2 finale.
Normally, Luther et al’s attention would be drawn to The Sparrow Academy’s floating green cube member (more on this in a bit). Ben Hargreeves, the family’s departed brother who lost his life (again) to save Diego, Allison, Klaus, and Vanya in season 2, is revealed to be The Sparrows’ vice-captain–much to the surprise of the gang.

Here’s where things start to get interesting. The ending of Hotel Oblivion only offers us one genuine identity and one pseudonym, the latter of which is Number One, the group’s leader. The only other Sparrow Academy name we get from the comics is Carla, who introduces Vanya to the gang before they save The Umbrella Academy from an inexhaustible number of supervillains. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that Carla will be in season 3 – unless her appearance is being kept a secret–as Netflix has already revealed the roster and identities of The Sparrow Academy. Here’s who you may expect to see in season 3 as the superhero group:

- Jake Epstein as Alphonso Hargreeves/Number Four
- Genesis Rodriguez as Sloane Hargreeves/Number Five

When Will Umbrella Academy Season 3 Premier?
A large number of productions, including The Umbrella Academy, are now up and running. In terms of a release date, late 2021 would be the best-case scenario, but any delays might easily push it back even farther. If that’s the case, Season 3 may not arrive until early to mid-2022. Meanwhile, Elliot Page has updated followers on Instagram from the set of the third season of Umbrella Academy.
