Sofia Vergara Plays A Notorious Drug Lord In Netflix’s Upcoming Miniseries, ‘Griselda’

The former Modern Family star, Sofia Vergara makes another big break with the lead role as Griselda in Netflix’s upcoming limited series.

On Wednesday, January 19, the streaming giant posted the first look of Vergara’s Griselda on Twitter. Take a look:

Who Was Griselda?

Griselda Blanco was a Colombian drug queenpin recognized for her unorthodox and violent ways of conducting business. She was one of the richest drug traffickers who lived a life of luxury and in fact, was the first-ever billionaire female criminal.

But of course, when you live by the gun, you die by the gun. Just as Griselda caused the death of about 200 lives while smuggling cocaine from Colombia to New York, she was shot and killed on September 3 2012, at the age of 69. Griselda also went by the names, La Madrina, the Cocaine Godmother, the Black Widow and the Queen of Narco-Trafficking.

The Show’s Production

Vergara has been concocting Griselda’s biopic for the past eight years with Luis Balaguer, the executive producer at Latin World Entertainment before the series was taken up by Netflix. The miniseries’ director is Andrés Baiz, while the co-showrunners are Doug Miro and Ingrid Escajeda.

Cast

Across six 50-minute episodes, the limited series includes ten other cast members: Alberto Ammann as Alberto Bravo, Alberto Guerra as Dario, Christian Tappan as Arturo, Diego Trujillo as German Panesso, Gabriel Sloyer as Diaz, José Zúñiga as Amilcar, Juliana Aidén Martinez as June, Paulina Davila as Carmen, Martin Rodriguez as Rivi and Vanessa Ferlito as Isabel.

Is There a Trailer?

As of writing, Netflix hasn’t released Griselda‘s trailer yet. We also don’t know when the miniseries will be out. But since it is currently in production, expect to see its debut towards the end of the year.
