After ‘Ashin of the North’, are Naver and Netflix now working on ‘Kingdom: The Crown Prince’?

After the success of Kingdom: Ashin of the North, starring Jun Ji Hyun, which is a precursor to the events of Kingdom‘s two seasons. Rumor has it that we might get another spin-off episode as well! Yes, you read that correctly. According to Naver TV Entertainment rumors, the prequel episode would be named Kingdom: The Crown Prince and will star Ju Ji Hoon in the lead role.

Kingdom is likely the most recognizable South Korean title on Netflix, and one of the most popular Korean language Netflix Originals. According to Netflix, the film has become a “beloved story” in Korea and beyond. Kang Yoon Sung, the director of The Outlaws, said on July 23 that he would be directing the popular zombie drama’s second special.

Things to know about ‘The Crown Prince’

Throughout Kingdom, a large number of characters died, but happily, some of our favorite heroes lived to fight another day. Yeong-shin, the prolific imperial tiger hunter, in particular, was a fan favorite and one that many fans would like to see more of in action. With undead animals like tigers being introduced in Kingdom: Ashin of the North, who will hunt undead beasts than Yeong-shin? We could also follow Jo Bum Pal, Dongnae’s magistrate. When Yeong-shin gave Jo Bum Pal Seo Bi’s journal, that was the last time we saw him. Finally, we may see more of the young Crown Prince Yi Chang, who is still infected with the illness.

The first rumors/reports about a potential spinoff surfaced in late June 2021, claiming that the new series will be directed by playwright Kim Eun-hee and will include Ju Ji Hoon’s return. According to a source, the film will focus on Lee Chang but again, nothing has been confirmed. Meanwhile, you can stream the special bonus episode of Kingdom: Ashin of the North, starring Jun Ji Hyun, portraying Ashin’s harsh journey as a brave warrior on Netflix.
