‘Inventing Anna,’ a New Netflix Series Will Explore the Life of Iconic Con Artist Anna Delvey

“They dislike to see a girlboss succeed,” as the internet regularly reminds us. This is especially true when that girlboss is guilty of fraud. The New York Magazine story “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People” by Jessica Pressler enthralled the country in 2018. Anna Delvey, born Anna Sorokin, was a phony heiress who tricked her way into the upper echelons of New York society, lived for free in five-star hotels, and traveled the world on the dime of privileged kids, according to the piece.

Inventing Anna is executive produced by Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers of Shondaland. According to Deadline, this is the first show Rhimes has produced since Scandal. Netflix has stated that the drama will be restricted to ten episodes.

Julia Garner, an Emmy winner, will play Delvey in the Netflix limited series. Vivian, the journalist investigating Delvey’s deception, will be played by Anna Chlumsky of Veep. Katie Lowes from Scandal and Laverne Cox from Orange Is the New Black. Arian Moayed, Jeff Perry, Anna Deavere Smith, Terry Kinney, and Alexis Floyd round out the cast.

A promotional teaser for the upcoming fraudster series gets a glance at Anna Delvey’s constructed life, as well as Jessica Pressler, a New York Magazine journalist who was determined to expose the fake heiress’s secret life.

The series is slated to air on Netflix on February 11, 2022.
