What is Katla all about?
Though Iceland isn’t Hollywood, the country still serves a handful of critically acclaimed productions through the years. In this upcoming Netflix mystery series, we see a small town called Vik. Disrupted by a volcanic eruption, some mysterious anomalies start to happen.
As for most volcanic eruptions in movies, Katla erupting doesn’t signify the end of the city. In fact, the volcano has been active since pre-historic times and has resulted in strange, unnatural events. A year after the violent eruption and evacuation, mysterious elements from pre-historic times have begun to emerge from the melting ice––an occurrence no one could’ve ever foreseen.
Who are attached to Katla?
Netflix has been spot-on with who they want to work with––those who share the same vision as them. Katla is no exception as they boast some of the most talented Nordic talents, creators, writers, and directors. Created by Sigurjon Kjartansson and Baltasar Kormakur, the series is rounded out by a talented group of actors in:
- Iris Tanja Flygenrin as Asa
- Ingvar Sigurdsson as Por
- Porsteinn Bachmann as Gisli
- Helga Braga Jonsdottir as Vigdis
- Solveig Arnarsdottir as Magnea
- Birgitta Birgisdottir as Rakel
- Aliette Opheim as Hunhild.
Alongside them, the cast also includes Haraldur Ari Stefánsson, Birgitta Birgisdóttir, Helga Braga Jónsdóttir, jörn Ingi Hilmarsson and Aldís Amah Hamilton, along with the nine-year old Hlynur Atli Harðarson.
When is the release date of Katla on Netflix?
I don’t know what it is, but I do feel like Netflix loves them a little bit of Icelandic content. By far, this is the only genre of content that the streaming giant doesn’t delay release dates. Anyway, Netflix has confirmed that the Icelandic mystery drama series is set to premiere on the platform on the 17th of June, 2021.
As we’ve said, the trailer has officially been released. If you want a sneak peek into how volcanic eruptions suddenly turned into the mysterious emergence of pre-historic times, then you might want to take a look at this.
Tell us what you think! Will this be the next big international series on Netflix?
