‘Ragnarok’ Season 2: Release Date, Plot, Cast, and Trailer

And the games begin anew. Ragnarok is gladly coming back to Netflix after what was a successful first season––racking up fans from all over the world. The series is a coming-of-age show that builds itself on the foundation of Norse mythology. However, it isn’t all thunder and mischief as the series also emphasizes topics such as climate change. Enough of that! Now that a new trailer has come out, teasing the fans for the upcoming season, here’s everything you need to know about Ragnarok Season 2!

What is Ragnarok all about?

The series takes place in a fictional town called Edda, Hordaland. Honestly, sounds legit to me. Here, there’s an obvious tension between the public and the big corporations that contribute to the pollution of the environment. With this, climate change has become more relevant in the town alongside the 1% of rich people who benefit from doing so.

The first season of Ragnarok revolved around Magne, a 17-year-old high school student who just found out he wasn’t just any ordinary kid from Edda––but the embodiment of Thor, the Norse God (not the Marvel superhero). However, because he is the embodiment of a powerful being, he must now face enemies that also possess the ancient powers.

The Jutul family, the corporate family that rules over the town, is the real cause of the industrial pollution brought about by their factories. Considered to be the fifth-richest family in Norway, the Jutul family just so happens to represent the embodiment of the four Jötnar––and thus, the fight between Thor and the Jötnars commence. The former’s motivation to save, while the latter’s is to destroy.

When is the release date of Ragnarok Season 2 on Netflix?

Ragnarok Season 2 will be released on the streaming giant on the 27th of May, 2021. This renewal and the swift production aren’t surprises at all. The Norse series performed amazingly and managed to put itself between the contemporary and the mythic style of storytelling. For a Norwegian series, to place inside the top 10 of countries like the United Kingdom and the United States during your first season is impressive enough.

In March 2020, Ragnarok was given the green light for Season 2 and was announced to the public through the streamer’s social media. However, because of the still-ravaging pandemic, the filming and production of the second season had to come to a halt.

Who is attached to Ragnarok Season 2?

You have your reprising stars in David Stakston as Magne, Jonas Strand Gravli as Laurits, Herman Tømmeraas as Fjor, Theresa Frostad Eggesbø as Saxa, Emma Bones as Gry, Henriette Steenstrup as Turid, and Synnøve Macody Lund as Ran. Netflix has also revealed several new cast members for the upcoming second season, and though we really don’t know much about who their characters are and what they’ll be doing in the series––the most important fact is that they’re there:

  • Vebjørn Enger as Jens
  • Benjamin Helstad as Harry
  • Billie Barker as Signy
  • Jesper Malm as Odd Moland
  • Espen Sigurdsen as Halvor Lange.
