‘The Midnight Club’: Netflix’s Upcoming Horror Series, Release Date, Plot, Cast, and More

Mike Flanagan is at it again with his horror shenanigans––just what the American filmmaker is best known to do. This time, he’s taking his talents to Netflix with The Midnight Club. As expected, filming will begin this March, and the excitingly new teen-horror will be landing sometime around 2022. So far, here’s everything you need to know about The Midnight Club––from the plot, cast, production updates, and the elusive release date.

What is The Midnight Club all about?

As you may know, The Midnight Club is an upcoming Netflix Original teen-horror series from Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy. Yes, the same Mike Flanagan responsible for making your hair stand up with The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor. As you can see, he’s pretty well-versed in the horror scene.

The Midnight Club, on the other hand, is based on Christopher Pike’s hit novel. The project also marks Flanagan’s fifth Netflix Original series. Intrepid Pictures will be responsible for the production of the series and, what do you know, the team behind The Haunting of Bly Manor is attached to the project as well. Ah, guess this won’t be an easy watch after all.

The story of The Midnight Club revolves around a group of terminally ill teenage patients who reside at Rotterdam Home. Together, they create the titular Midnight Club where they all secretly meet at midnight and tell horrifying stories. The group forms a pact wherein whoever dies first would make an effort to contact the rest of the club members from beyond the grave.

Yes, that looks like something the streaming giant would want in their libraries––there’s absolutely no doubt about that.

What is the production status of The Midnight Club?

On the 15th of March, 2021, the principal photography of the project has begun in British Columbia, Canada. If everything goes well and the pandemic actually doesn’t affect anything production-related (hopefully), the filming of the project is slated to finish on the 23rd of July, 2021.

Who are attached to The Midnight Club?

Aside from Flanagan, Pike, and Intrepid Pictures, here are the following cast members of The Midnight Club––those of which have already worked together with Flanagan:

  • Matt Biedel
  • Annarah Cymone
  • James Flanagan
  • Zach Gilford
  • Igby Rigney
  • Samantha Sloyan

Though Matt Biedel, Annarah Cymone, Zach Gilford, and Igby Rigney have not yet been seen on any of Flanagan’s past projects, the four of them are set to star in Flanagan’s upcoming Midnight Mass. Does Flanagan have anything against “Midnight”? Just wondering.

To round out the list of the cast members, here are the others who are confirmed to star in The Midnight Club:

  • Adia
  • Ruth Codd
  • Aya Furukawa
  • Heather Langenkamp
  • Sauriyan Sapkota
  • William Chris Sumpter

More of the cast members will be released soon enough.

When is The Midnight Club‘s Netflix release date?

This one’s going to be a doozy. Considering that the principal photography of the Netflix series is slated to start in March and end in July, it’ll be easier to expect that audiences won’t get to see The Midnight Club on the streaming giant until 2022. If anything, there’s a huge possibility that the series will be able to premiere during the Spring of 2022––if all goes well, of course.

How many episodes will The Midnight Club release?

As for the episode count, it has already been confirmed that The Midnight Club is ready to boast ten episodes upon release. Runtimes, on the other hand, are yet to be disclosed to the public. However, since there are only ten episodes, we’d expect the normal 45 to 60-minute runtime from Netflix––just like its other teen-drama predecessors.
