‘Zero Chill’: Release Date, Plot, Cast, Trailer, and More From the Ice-Skating Series

Netflix and sports have long been a thing. It’s more of a love-hate relationship if I do say so myself. After their stint with Michael Jordan and the Bulls’ The Last Dance documentary, their sports catalog hasn’t really grown that much. Aside from their Formula 1: Drive to Survive renewal, the streaming giant hasn’t updated the category since then. However, here’s something for you sports fans out there––something a little bit unlikely that I’m pretty sure you’ll love to see.

The streaming giant hits the ice rink! Yes, sir! Netflix has, once again, come to the conclusion that the rink is the best way possible to settle teenage stories––and this time, it’s through sports-drama Zero Chill. Here’s everything you need to know about the teen series, from the plot to the cast, to the newest trailer and the upcoming Netflix release date.

What is Zero Chill all about?

Zero Chill is an upcoming British-Canadian Netflix Original sports-drama (something you don’t see every day from the streaming giant, eh?) created by Kirstie Falkous and John Reiger. The series is produced by Lime Pictures, a well-known production studio behind Disney’s The Evermoor Chronicles and Netflix’s Free Reign.

I don’t know if this is a good thing or not, but it actually follows suit with another ice-skating Original series Spinning Out. However, that series didn’t really prove well for Netflix, eventually getting axed during its short life. Zero Chill, however, focuses on the younger demographic. As proven, this will provide more avenues of success for the streaming giant.

The synopsis is as follows:

Canadian 15-year-old twins Kayla and Mac both love the ice. Kayla is a figure skater and Mac an extremely talented Ice Hockey player. When Mac is offered a scholarship at a legendary Ice Hockey academy in the UK, Kayla’s life is upended when she and her family move across the Atlantic. Upset that her parents would put Mac’s ambitions before her own, Kayla must once again find her place on the rink and find her way out of the shadow of her brother.

When is the first season of Zero Chill coming out on Netflix?

It’s been a long time coming, but the hopeful ice-skating series has finally released a trailer––confirming all the more that Zero Chill will be available to stream on the 15th of March, 2021.

How many episodes will there be for the first season?

Much like any other series, Zero Chill will be boasting a total of ten episodes during its first season. However, the runtime of each episode is still undisclosed to the public––but we can expect that it follows the normal series format and also runs for around 30 minutes per episode.

Who are the cast members of Zero Chill season one?

The following cast members have already been confirmed as both main and supporting roles for Zero Chill:

  • Grace Beedie as Kayla
  • Dakota Taylor as Mac
  • Doug Rao as Luke
  • Sarah-Jane Potts as Jenny
  • Jade Ma as Sky
  • Oscar Skagerberg as Anton
  • Stanislaus Steinbichler as Nico
  • Christina Tam as Holly
  • Calin Bleau as Marak
  • Brett Houghton as Carson
  • Toby Murray as Archie

There’s a lot of possibilities for this series and I, together with all Netflix subscribers, sincerely hope that it goes well. After what happened to Spinning Out wherein it hasn’t even reached its peak but was performing really well, per se, it goes to show how the streaming giant really is relentless in axing certain series. Either way, that’s all in the past and hope shines through as this ice-skating series proves the doubters wrong––and so it shall. Here’s the trailer to the series, if you’re just as excited as I am for this one to release!
