Casting Calls for Netflix Film Adaptation of ‘Leave The World Behind’

Late last year, we got to know that Netflix will be producing a film remake of Rumaan Alam’s novel of the same name, starring the Oscar winners Julia Roberts and Mahershala Ali.

On January 19 2022, other cast members were announced for the thriller film, Leave The World Behind. The breakout actress Myha’la Herrold who made her acting debut with HBO’s Industry will be on board. Joining her are Charlie Evans and Ryan Kiera Armstrong.

Finally, the busy bee Ethan Hawke will star as well. He just wrapped up filming Marvel’s Moon Knight where he stars as the villain Arthur Harrow. He also hails in Knives Out 2 and The Northman.

Hawke plays Julia’s husband while Charlie and Ryan portray their on-screen kids. Myha’la plays Mahershala’s daughter.

Production

Robert will produce the Netflix film through her Red Om Films Corporation. Teaming up with Robert as producers are Lisa Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill. The novel’s writer, Alam, will executively produce the movie. Sam Esmail of Esmail Corporation is the film’s director, joined by Chad Hamilton.

Synopsis

The story begins with a white family’s vacation gone wrong as they are interrupted by the unexpected arrival of the middle-aged couple that owns their rented holiday home. The middle-aged black couple fled the city due to an unprecedented blackout that cut out all power lines.

Meanwhile, strange things happen, such as animals migrating in queer ways and sonic booms shattering the countryside. The two families are consumed with race issues and obliviate to the alarming things happening around them. How will they beat the unforeseen tragedy?

When Will The Film Premiere?

While Netflix hasn’t announced a release date for the movie, it would be safe to assume it will premiere anywhere between autumn this year and spring next year.
