‘Code 8: Part II’: Netflix Renewal and Exclusive Release

Sure enough, the first movie of Code 8 was a hit for Netflix. After being licensed by the streaming giant in 2020, they’re now coming back with a sequel––and the nicest thing about it is that the platform has it exclusively. Here’s everything you need to know about Code 8: Part II!

What is Code 8: Part II all about?

You know how sequels work. They continue the madness of the first film and add a little bit more flair––and possibly even another cliffhanger if they want a trilogy. According to What’s on Netflix, the plotline of the sequel will be as follows:

After a teenage girl wielding uncommon abilities witness the murder and cover-up of her brother, she looks for an ex-con (Robbie Amell) and his partner (Stephen Amell) for help. As the journey for justice takes place, standing in their way is a corrupt police unit that deploys advanced technology to try to stop their inevitable exposure.

Before it was a movie, it first began as a short film in 2016. Three years later, it was adapted into a feature film by Vertical Entertainment. A year later, the first movie made its way to Netflix as an SVOD and was distributed in almost all regions reachable through the platform on the 11th of April, 2020. Netflix does love these types of content, though.

For a movie on the streaming giant going up against some theatrical behemoths, Code 8 did significantly well. For a couple of weeks, the movie places itself on top 10 lists––even making its way to the US top 10 movie list for more than two weeks! It doesn’t stop there, though, as it was also featured in the UK top 10 movie list for almost two weeks. If you’re curious why that is, then let Code 8 prove itself to you as you can still watch it on the platform.

For some time now, the sequel was already known to be in the making, and Code 8: Part II was announced during the Banff World Media Festival. The movie marks the first Canadian-English language feature acquisition. Though the first movie was available for a long list of Netflix regions all around the globe like the United Kingdom and Australia, it’s very ironic that Canada doesn’t have access to the film.

Who are attached to Cod 8: Part II?

The sequel will see the return of Robbie Amell and Stephen Amell as Connor Reed and Garret, respectively. However, Sung Kang, Jai Jai Jones, and Kari Matchett are still on the verge of an announcement.

Chris Paré, Sherren Lee, Jesse LaVercombe, and Jeff Chan will be stationed at the writer’s room and the latter, Chan, will be directing the sequel after directing the original movie.

Filming is expected to begin during the latter part of the year in Canada.
