‘The Umbrella Academy’ Actor Elliot Page and Emma Portner Getting Divorced

Netflix’s sci-fi star, Elliot Page, of The Umbrella Academy has just announced he and his wife’s, Emma Portner, divorce after three fruitful years of marriage. The Oscar-nominated actor and talented dancer married in early 2018. Proudly, Page announced before 2020 ended that he is transgender––using the pronouns he/they.

The two have released a statement confirming their separation, reading:

After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer. We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends.

I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here,” he stated. “To have arrived at this place in my life. I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey.

I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive,” he continued and also promising that he will “do everything I can to change this world for the better.”

The main takeaways are Page and Portner’s decision to remain close friends and Page’s incredible example of embracing who she was, is, and will become.

In one of Netflix’s biggest sci-fi shows, The Umbrella Academy, Page stars as Vanya Hargreeves or Number Seven––a violinist who has suppressed power for years. Renewed for an all-new season, The Umbrella Academy now boasts of almost three seasons with the streaming giant and will show the Hargreeves siblings confronting Sparrow Academy after some kind of trip through space and time continuum.
