Comedian John Bishop Joins the Cast of ‘Doctor Who’ Season 13

The pandemic has caused either of two things: the fulfillment of one’s dreams or the opposite. Luckily for the funny bloke in actor and comedian John Bishop, he proves to be one of the former. Bishop will be joining the cast of Doctor Who as Dan. Reportedly, it looks like he’ll be joining alongside the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) and Yaz (Mandip Gill) for a journey in the TARDIS.

If I could tell my younger self that one day I would be asked to step on board the TARDIS, I would never have believed it,” Bishop told the BBC.

Lucky you, Bishop. Lucky you. However, while there has been no information about the character of Bishop, the BBC did say that Dan will “face evil alien races beyond his wildest nightmares.”

Showrunner Chibnall and the rest of the production and cast have done a great job hiding this in secrecy. Apparently, Bishop joining the show has been in the talks for quite some time now.

We’ve had to keep this one secret for a long, long time,” showrunner Chris Chibnall said to BBC. “Our conversations started with John even before the pandemic hit. The character of Dan was built for him, and it’s a joy to have him aboard the TARDIS,” he continued.

The upcoming season of the series is currently in the works and Bishop is already involved in the set. Unfortunately, no release date has been made official but the BBC brings good news in reporting that the new episodes are set to air on BBC One sometime in 2021.
