‘Narcos: Mexico’ a Bloody Drugwar Netflix Series is Renewed for Season 3

It’s official! Season 3 of Narcos: Mexico is currently available on Netflix, with Carlo Bernard as showrunner. The second season of Narcos premiered on Netflix in February 2020 with a dramatic shift, but the story of the Mexican drug war remains untold. Narcos: Mexico was formally renewed by Netflix in late October 2020, but it had been in the works for a long time. With filming completed, we can start counting down to the premiere of Season 3. Here’s all we know about the upcoming third season of Narcos: Mexico on Netflix worldwide.

When Netflix announced the release of Narcos: Mexico season 3, many fans were ecstatic! Season 2 left many fans wondering what would happen next, and we’ll soon find out just how intricate this worldwide drug trade saga can become. Narcos: Mexico was a three-season offshoot of the original Narcos series where The Guadalajara Cartel’s spread and growth in Jalisco is the focus of the criminal drama series.

Narcos: Mexico Season 3’s New Showrunner

One of the big reveals for Narcos: Mexico season 3 was that the showrunner would be replaced for the third season. For the third season, Carlo Bernard will take over full showrunning duties from Eric Newman. Carlo has been a part of the show for all five seasons and should be able to pick up just where he left off. THR also adds that it’s unclear whether Diego Luna will appear, as Netflix hasn’t confirmed whether Scoot McNairy will return. Wagner Moura, who played Pablo Escobar in the first two seasons of Narcos, will direct two episodes in the third season.

To keep the hype up, here’s the official synopsis from Netflix:

“Season 3 examines the war that breaks out after Felix’s empire splinters. As newly independent cartels struggle to survive political upheaval and escalating violence, a new generation of Mexican kingpins emerge. But in this war, truth is the first casualty – and every arrest, murder and take-down only pushes real victory further away.”

We might have already seen the third season on Netflix if it hadn’t been for the global pandemic, but fans will have to wait a bit longer.  With filming ending in March, the third season is now in the final stages of post-production. As a result, the third season of Narcos: Mexico could be available on Netflix by the end of the year. Season 3 is expected to premiere in the fourth quarter of 2021 or the first quarter of 2022, depending on Netflix’s confirmation.
