Talk about Netflix going international! For all we thought, it was all about the streaming giant licensing a couple of series and films from here and there––but no. They’re actually revolutionizing what might be one of Netflix’s biggest moves as of late––a Korean adaptation of one of their biggest international series, the Spanish-bred La Casa de Papel, or most notably Money Heist.

Currently, the hit Spanish series is in production for their fifth and, sadly, final season. More than 65 million households have watched the fourth season within its first month of releasing––a feat only Money Heist can achieve so easily.
Created by Alex Pina, he will also be serving as an executive producer for the Korean adaptation. The series will be directed by Kim Hong-sun, a widely renowned talent in the TV industry in Korea––responsible for The Guest, Black, and Voice as well as his contributions within the fantasy crime genre of Korea.
“Korean creators have been developing their own language and audiovisual culture for years,” said Pina. “They have managed, like our series, to go beyond cultural borders and become a point of reference for thousands of viewers around the world, especially among young people. That is why I find it fascinating that the world of La Casa De Papel is so attractive to Korean creators as to do an adaptation. The fact that the action is set on the Korean Peninsula also seems to me to be a milestone which I am really delighted about.”
