‘Outer Banks’ Season 2: When is the Release Date of the Netflix Mystery Thriller?

I know, I know. You, a fan of Outer Banks, have continuously been waiting for a release date to come, haven’t you? Well, get in line, pal! There’s a lot of people curious about any (and every) detail of the next season of the hit Netflix series so here we are––imparting what we know so far to ease the tension between your shoulders.

Throughout the year 2020, Netflix has absolutely dominated the game with titles you wouldn’t even expect to be in entertainment. From Tiger King to animations such as Big Mouth, the streaming giant covered all the bases. Considering it was also the pandemic, the big year became even bigger.

However, one of the few hidden champions of the streamer came out to be the first-controversial Outer Banks.

What is Outer Banks all about?

From the genius of Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke, Outer Banks first premiered on the streaming platform on the 15th of April, 2020, and gave the viewers a chance to enjoy adventure and romance from a very different perspective.

Outer Banks follows a group of teenagers in the, well, the outer banks of North Carolina. The group makes their effort to find out what happened to the missing father of the group’s leader, John B., but eventually, they find the treasure tied to John B’s father.

Given the unexpected success and viewership, excited audiences have their hopes up for a second season––and especially a relatively soon release date.

When is Outer Banks‘ release date on Netflix?

Bad news ahead, people. The release date for Outer Banks season 2 is still undisclosed and unconfirmed. However, since the series was renewed early in 2020, one could assume that the series could return to the streaming platform in 2021. Though Netflix took their sweet time in reviewing whether the series was worthy of being renewed, they still gave it the green light in July 2020 through a tweet––a couple of months after the first season premiered.

Who could complain, though? It’s better late than never, as they say––and they should be thankful it didn’t meet the chopping block at the end of 2020 when Netflix went on an axing spree. The renewal means that the filming of the second season began in September 2020 and concluded towards the end of January 2021 or early February 2021.

As a result, the release date will solely be upon how much time post-production needs alongside Netflix’s decision to arrange a release date that doesn’t contend with bigger series and/or films––given that 2021 is expected to be bigger than the last.

Latest updates from the creator of Outer Banks:

Pate spoke with Entertainment Weekly when the first season of the series premiered and was already asked about the fate of John B. and Sarah during the finale. Pate should’ve expected this after giving the fans a taste of a potential second season, at the time.

We’ll definitely have at least a part of season 2 that’ll take place in the Bahamas, but it’ll all come back to the Outer Banks because that’s our spiritual home. So we’ll get back to the Outer Banks pretty quickly, I’m sure, but there’ll be definitely an episode or two that that has some Bahamas in it.

“… we’ll also introduce some new villains too. So the story will broaden a little bit as we go into season 2… There will definitely be some new mysteries and some new ideas,” he added.

However, it doesn’t end there. Pate also acknowledged the development of Rafe’s pathology and how he’s supposed to play a vital role in the newest season. Alongside that, Austin North’s Topper will also be given the spotlight in the new season.
