South African Pride ‘Queen Sono’ Season 2 Removed from Netflix due to Uncertain Times

Unfortunately, Queen Sono will not be returning to Netflix for a second run. After it was renewed for a second season, the streaming giant has definitive reasons to discontinue the South African series. Here’s everything you need to know.

The internationally-made crime series has been all over the internet after its first season––deservingly so, may I add. Released on the 28th of February, it was a proud moment for South Africa as they boast their very first Netflix Original series.

With the creation of Kagiso Lediga, the series followed a secret agent who takes care of criminal operations. With top-of-the-line production and acting, Netflix has given it the green light for a second season quickly.

Kagiso Lediga and the Diprente team delivered a compelling story that resonated with our viewers and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for Queen Sono in this coming season,” Netflix said in a released statement.

The second season was already planned out. It was supposed to resolve a handful of cliffhangers left during the first season. Fans of the show would’ve loved to know whether or not Queen learned about her past and will still be looking for vengeance.

South African outlet News24 reported that due to “current trying times,” the discontinuation of the series was inevitable––reversing the original renewal of the show.

Lediga has also stated that the show “could not be executed” at this time.

We’ve made the difficult decision not to move forward with season 2 of Queen Sono,” Netflix said.
