Giancarlo Epositio Is Ready for a Moff Gideon Spin-off

Giancarlo Esposito is ready for season three of The Mandalorian and is even waiting for the call up for a Gideon spin-off.

Although his total screen time has been rather short, Epositio’s character – imperial commander Moff Gideon –  has been lurking in the shadows the entire way through season two of the Mando, and finally burst forth onto centre stage during the dramatic and explosive finale.

First revealed during the two-part ending of season one as the man pulling the strings in the hunt for ‘The Child’, the recent finale left Gideon’s character at a crossroads that some have speculated will be his last appearance on the show.

The episode saw the showdown we’ve all been waiting for – beskar vs Darksabre – and Din Djarin came out of the match up with the villain in cuffs and the mystic weapon in his hands.

With Gideon captured and Grogu safely on his way to begin his training in the Jedi arts, what is next for the newest bad guy in the Star Wars universe?

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in November Esposito gave us some hints at the character’s future, saying ‘I have a feeling you’ll see more of me next season. More than likely you’re going to see a lot of Moff Gideon.’

How this will happen is yet to be seen. Will we see Gideon rescued from the rescue party?

And if so how will Gideon’s future intersect with that of Din Djarin? Some fans are speculating that with Gideon on the loose in season three we will see him continue to hunt the Mando in an attempt to regain the Darksabre – setting us up for a threeway struggle between Gideon, Djarin and Bo-Katan, who also lusts after the weapon.

Esposito has even gone so far as to offer himself up for a Gideon spin-off. In a recent Esquire interview, he spoke about hearing news of Disney’s upcoming Star Wars projects and joked, ‘”I sat there and went, ‘Hey, what about me?! The answer is, yes, I would be interested in that if there was enough material and storyline to indulge that,” he says. “But first I want to be true to this project.”
