The end of the year means the end of a few other things too, one of them being the streaming of a lot of movies and shows on Netflix. Here are some movies that we recommend you watch before they’re gone. These are all leaving the streaming service on December 31st.
American Gangster is a gripping biographical crime movie directed by Ridley Scott. The movie is set in 1970s New York and stars Denzel Washington as Frank Lucas, a dangerous crime boss in Harlem, alongside Russell Crowe as Richie Roberts, a cop who convinces Frank Lucas to turn on his criminal associates. The dynamic between the two lead actors is wonderful to watch.
Magnolia, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, is a 1999 drama/epic following a day in the life of 10 different people in California whose lives intertwine over the course of the day. Tom Cruise was nominated for an Oscar for his stand-out role in Magnolia, which also stars a host of other big names such as Philip Seymour Hoffman, Julianne Moore, John C. Reilly, and Alfred Molina to name just a few.
Mystic Pizza is a wonderful, romantic 1988 comedy-drama starring Julia Roberts, Lili Taylor, Annabeth Gish, and Vincent D’Onofrio. Three girls – two sisters and their best friend – live in the small fishing town of Mystic, and are working in the pizza place, ‘Mystic Pizza’ the summer after high school. The movie begins when one of the girls leaves her fiancé at the altar, and follows the lives of the three as they work, date, and learn about life. It is a heartwarming coming-of-age story, with amazing chemistry between the actors. Keep your eyes peeled for Matt Damon too, he’s got a tiny part in there somewhere!
