The Silent Sea Season 1 will be Available to Stream on Netflix from December 24th

A new South Korean mystery sci-fi thriller series, The Silent Sea, will be available to stream on Netflix from December 24th, when the eight-part first season is released.

The Netflix logline says: “During a perilous 24-hour mission on the moon, space explorers try to retrieve samples from an abandoned research facility steeped in classified secrets.”

Starring Kingdom’s Bae Doona, Squid Games and Train to Busan’s Gong Yoo, and South Korean actor and singer Lee Joon.

The series was created by award-winning screenwriter Park Eun-kyo and director Choi Hang-yong who also directed the 2014 short film The Sea of Tranquility, which the drama series is based on. The Silent Sea is set in a dystopian future where planet Earth is suffering, there is no water and people are going hungry. A soldier for the space agency, Yoon-jae, played by Gong Yoo, is selected as the exploration team leader for an elite mission to travel to the moon along with astrobiologist Doctor Song Ji-an, played by Bae Doona. They are to bring back a sample from an abandoned research station, but things get a little out of hand, as they often do in space exploration adventures, when the crew finds dead bodies in the abandoned base and an unknown creature makes its presence felt.

The Silent Sea is produced by Artist Studio, with South Korean model and actor Jung Woo-sung as an executive producer, and if the trailer is anything to go by, the series will be gripping.
