Finally, Netflix has announced a release date for Season 2 of Sweet Magnolias. It will premiere on February 4th, 2022, so only a few weeks more to wait. The Southern drama, based on the novels by Sherryl Woods, stars the wonderful JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Drop Dead Diva’s Brooke Elliott, and Trinidadian-born actress and singer Heather Headley. The three women play childhood best friends, helping each other through life’s ups and downs – and there sure are a lot of those.
Set in a small Southern Carolina town called Serenity (how lovely) the series sees the three best friends, Maddie, Dana Sue, and Helen, banding together after Maddie, played by JoAnna Garcia Swisher, finds herself single. Her husband Bill, played by Chris Klein (you’ll remember him from the American Pie movies) leaves her for another woman, Noreen, played by Jamie Lynn Spears.
Season 1 arrived on Netflix in May 2020, with the 10-episode series becoming so popular that it was renewed for a second season just a few months later. The first season follows the three main characters through romances, a new business venture, heartbreaks, and family drama. It’s heartwarming and endearing feel-good TV. The final episode of the first season left us on a terrible cliffhanger after a car accident, and Season 2 is expected to open right where that last episode ended, so we finally get to find out – WHO WAS IN THE CAR!
