Another Neil Gaiman creation is being adapted into a series, definitely something to get excited about! A series adapted from Neil Gaiman’s DC graphic novel The Sandman is coming to Netflix. Produced by DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television and executive produced by Allan Heinberg, Neil Gaiman, and David S. Goyer, it was developed for Netflix by Allan Heinberg.
The Sandman graphic novels tell the story of Morpheus, or Dream, the personification of dreams. He is part of a family of siblings, each one of whom is the personification of other human conditions. Their collective name is The Endless, and they include, along with Dream – Death, Destiny, Delirium, Desire, Despair, and Destruction.
Dream is captured and imprisoned in 1916, and that’s where the story starts off. He escapes, years later, and has to regain the powers he once possessed. Then the story follows Dream as he travels through time and space, helping to shape dreams and storytelling for all.
We can expect the series to stick closely to the graphic novels, and with such a huge world with endless possibilities for characters, we can’t wait to see who pops onto our screens.
The cast includes British actor Tom Sturridge as Morpheus, Vivienne Acheampong will play Dream’s librarian, Lucienne, a small change from the graphic novels in which the character is a man called Lucien. Boyd Holbrook, known for Narcos and The Predator, and Game of Thrones Tywin Lannister, Charles Dance.
Another Game of Thrones legend, Gwendoline Christie, will also star in the series. She will play Death, and she has stated:
“I read the Sandman graphic novels, so I knew that I simply had to be involved in this project because something truly unique was going to happen. The sets are vast. Great amount of detail and care has been put into how it’s being brought to life.”
