Chosen: Netflix’s New Coming-of-Age Danish Sci-Fi Series

Chosen is a new coming-of-age Danish sci-fi series created by two of the people behind the post-apocalyptic thriller The Rain, Jannik Tai Mosholt and Christian Potalivo, from the Danish production company Tall & Small. Chosen goes in a completely different sci-fi direction than The Rain, with a story involving a meteorite, possibly aliens, a small town full of secrets and lies, and a group of teenagers. Christian and Jannik explain:

“The Rain was a fantastic opportunity to tell stories in a genre we rarely experience in Scandinavia, and our collaboration with Netflix has been a pleasure that has only grown bigger and stronger over the years. Therefore, it was natural that Netflix was the right partner for Chosen, and the perfect place to develop and tell a story that is universal, has the sci-fi genre as a driving force, but also draws on our own lives and Danish themes.”

Who Stars in Chosen?

The cast includes Malaika Berenth Mosendane, Andreas Dittmer, and Andrea Heick Gadeberg, who is known for the dark comedy film Riders of Justice, in which she stars alongside Mads Mikkelsen.

What’s The Plot?

As far as we can gather, a meteorite was said to have crashed in a small town called Middelbo 17 years ago, but some of the teenagers of the town suspect now that things might not be as they seem, and maybe it was not a meteorite that crashed there at all. But if it wasn’t a meteorite, what could it have been? Chosen follows the teenagers as they try to find out what really happened.

When Can We Watch it?

Chosen will crash-land on Netflix on January 27th, 2022
