In February this year, Netflix released Crime Scene: The Vanishing At The Cecil Hotel, a docu-series that covers the tragic death of Canadian student, Elisa Lam, in Los Angeles in 2013. The true-crime series is coming back, this time investigating the notorious Times Square Killer, a serial killer who terrorized New York City right through the 1970s. The Netflix tagline reads:
‘In 1970s NYC, the “Torso Killer” preys on women to fulfill his grotesque fantasies while eluding police. A docuseries dive into crime’s darkest places.’
Who is the Times Square Killer?
Richard Cottingham, who was also known as the Torso Killer or the Times Square Killer, is known to have murdered 11 people across New York and New Jersey between 1967 and 1980. However, Cottingham claims to have committed many more, saying that he has actually murdered between 85 and 100 people.
How Many Episodes are There?
Like Crime Scene: The Vanishing At The Cecil Hotel, the new season will have three episodes. Netflix stated:
“In the second installment coming Dec. 29, Crime Scene: The Times Square Killer will examine how the danger and depravity of New York’s Times Square in the late 1970s and early 1980s made it possible for one man to commit – and nearly get away with – unthinkable acts in a nearly-lawless area rife with drugs and sex work. These three episodes will delve into the social and systemic forces that allowed horrific crimes to go unnoticed for too long.”
When Can We Watch it?
Crime Scene: The Times Square Killer is due to be released tomorrow on Netflix, December 29th, 2022.
